Rocker John Oates Adds Custom 1960 Porsche to His Collection
We can’t get enough of this beautiful bespoke Porsche 356 Cabriolet created by Emory Motorsports. No can do.
John Oates is a legendary musician, and half of the famed rock duo Hall and Oates. He’s also an avid Porsche fanatic and collector. He recently added an impressive custom 1960 Porsche 356B Cabriolet to his collection that is a crowd-pleaser.
The restomod was created by Rod Emory of  Emory Motorsports, a company that has created some outstanding Porsches. Oates car was based on Emory’s “356 Outlaw.”
Emory started off with a 1960 356B Cabriolet and fitted that with a removable hardtop. The original had damage to the front end, so the team took this as an opportunity to create a more shapely 356A front, with a leaned back A nose, and leaned back windshield. They including the smaller 356A bumpers for a cleaner aesthetic.
The Porsche is powered by Emory’s “Outlaw-4” engine, a 2.4-liter air-cooled flat-four that produces 200-horsepower. This is paired with a Porsche 911 aluminum-case 5-speed transmission. The Porsche received an independent rear suspension from a classic 911, and added Koni adjustable shocks. This, with the four-wheel disc brakes, gives the 356 superior handling.
The sporty interior has exquisite vintage styling. The rich Hyde’s cognac-colored leather basket weave Speedster seats were the perfect choice, as was the Darington steering wheel. The interior also boasts a includes a removable rollbar.
Oates took a hands-on role in overseeing the build, and he loves to show off his killer ride on Instagram.
He also recently showed off his ride and his musical chops at a concert at the RM Sotheby’s Porsche 70th Anniversary Auction at the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
This bespoke 1960 Porsche is on our list, a car we can’t resist.
