GT3 Cup Challenge Champ Jake Eidson Lands Hot New 911

Inaugural IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Scholarship adds another cool memento to his collection.

If you find yourself being a bit envious of those who get to race Porsches professionally, then wait ‘til you get a load of Jake Eidson‘s new trophy.

The 22-year-old Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge champion, who earned the inaugural IMSA Hurley Haywood GT3 Scholarship, was gifted a new hot black Porsche 911, according to Sportscar 365 .

The scholarship, which Eidson claimed earlier this year, included support from Porsche and Yokohama Tires, valued at roughly $70,000. Not a bad way to cap off a year, right?

Though, given how stiff the competition was for the first Hurley Haywood Scholarship, it all seems well deserved. According to IMSA, potential recipients had to meet a number of requirements to even be considered for the Hurley Haywood award, named after the legendary Rolex Daytona driver.

The evaluation process took into consideration things like a candidate’s previous races and potential success in the junior racing circuit. Participants also had to develop a solid business plan that outlines how they’ll secure the remaining funding needed to compete in a full season of IMSA racing.

Prior to winning the scholarship, Eidson had already made some significant marks on the track, earning six victories and 22 overall podium finishes. Though, it appears that one of the things that really makes him a great ambassador for the sport, is how personable he is when he’s not behind the wheel. That idea really rings clear in how Eidson talks about his outreach work with the charity “Racing For Kids.”

“Being able to meet some of those kids involved and put a smile on their faces has been really moving and memorable,” Eidson tells Sportscar 365. “It was special watching them enjoy the sights and sounds of racing and all the excitement of a race weekend.”
