We don’t spend enough time talking about the Porsche 968 around here. Of course, most 968s don’t look and act like this thing.

This is the “RP 968 Porsche,” which comes to us from PR Technology, a Porsche race car specialist in the Land Down Under. The RP in the name stands for Rod Pobestek, the lead builder on this impressive effort.

Obviously, the RP 968 doesn’t look like a normal 968, or a normal race car for that matter. That’s because the car was built for one thing, and one thing only: victory at the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge.

For those of you not in the know, a time attack is basically a race where drivers don’t directly compete against each other, but instead race against the clock. For the team at PR Technology, the Yokohama time attack is apparently the granddaddy of them all.

Since they’re competing in the Open Class, there’s total freedom as far as aero goes, so PR went aero-crazy with this build. Which is why, thanks to an ample amount of carbon fiber, this car is “several feet wider and longer than before. It has a wing that nearly doubles the height of the car, and a splitter big enough to double as a snow plow,” according to Road & Track.

But this car isn’t about show, it’s about go. So they enhanced the stock 3.0L 4-cyl with forged internals and a Borg Warner turbo, which makes between 600 and 900 hp, depending on the driver’s mood. And as if the thing didn’t look straight out of a sci-fi movie already, the steering wheel delivers all the driver’s commands at the push of a button.

Looks like it’s just about time to take over the world.
