Here’s What Chris Harris Thinks About the Turbocharged Porsche 991.2
Everybody wants to know what the Porsche 991.2’s new engine feels like. Though this is technically considered a facelift, the powerplant went from a naturally-aspirated six to a twin-turbo flat-six as part of a plan to reduce emissions by giving every single 911 the turbo treatment.
Of course, Porsche frames the move by saying that the new car has more power, more torque, and better efficiency. But what say the journos? We haven’t had one yet, but Sir Chris Harris is a pretty solid reference, and he released some thoughts via Twitter about the car and its engine. In summary: Great overall car, more mid-range power in new one, not as great-sounding or thrilling.
First this:
Finally had a go in a new turbo Carrera. It’s a mighty complete machine. pic.twitter.com/7xMOrFa59F

Then:
But of the big-3 that went n/a to whoosh (488/M3/911) this for me is the least successful. I really miss the zing of that old engine.

Then:
That 9A1 normally aspirated 6 in the last GTS was just a stunning engine. New one has more mid-range but loses so much noise/excitement.

Then:
It’s a very very good car though. New steering wheel/ infotainment superb. Chassis spot-on. Looks great. I just miss that old motor.

And then this, a couple of weeks later:
I’m still trying to like the new turbocharged 991 Carrera. And not miss the old n/a car. And I’m consistently failing.

So there you have it. But of course, Harris won’t have the final word. Check out what everybody’s saying about it on the forum.
