Here’s How Push-To-Pass Works in the 2025 Porsche Taycan

Among the many updates present in the 2025 Porsche Taycan, the Sport Chrono package’s push-to-pass button may just be the coolest.

The 2025 Porsche Taycan ushered in that EV’s very first real mid-cycle refresh, one that brought about a host of updates including some welcome improvements in terms of driving range and charging time, acceleration, and the overall driving experience. However, among the many cool new features present in the 2025 Porsche Taycan lineup, the new push-to-pass function – part of the optional Sport Chrono package – is particularly interesting. This feature gives owners a short boost in power for a limited time, which, in all honestly, makes us feel something like an F1 driver activating our car’s DRS (drag reduction system).

However, while DRS opens a flap in the rear wing to reduce drag and gain top speed – only when a car is within a second of the competitor in front – Porsche’s push-to-pass feature unleashes an additional 70 kW (around 94 horsepower) for 10 seconds, all via the push of a button, though this varies by model. The base Taycan delivers 60 kW (80 horsepower) more than before, while the Taycan Turbo S gets 140 kW (188 horsepower) with Launch Control activated. The results, according to Porsche, are improvements in 0-60 mph acceleration of 0.6 and 0.4 seconds compared to their predecessors – 4.8 and 2.4 seconds, respectively.

In the real world, such a boost can prove helpful in normal situations as well, as we can see in this short clip. The push-to-pass button is great for overtaking slower traffic in a jiffy, though one could also argue that most Taycan models have more than enough power to handle that as-is. Regardless, given the many improvements made to the 2025 Porsche Taycan, it has also arguably been the most overlooked – and perhaps coolest – feature present in the revamped EV.

Other than a slight exterior design revamp, the most notable updates present in the 2025 Porsche Taycan pertain to its new e-motors, more powerful batteries, and updated software, which help boost power in a significant manner across the board, but perhaps more importantly, range as well. Previously, range was a bit disappointing at anywhere between 206 and 246 miles, but the 2025 Porsche Taycan got a big boost to 252-318 miles – more on par with the competition. Of course, getting a bit happy with the push-to-pass button is sure to impact those figures negatively, but personally, we think it’s well worth the efficiency drain.
