Do You Plan on Swapping Your Porsche 991 911 for a 992?

The 992-gen Porsche 911 promises plenty of performance, but also packs controversial looks. So will you be picking one up?

Oftentimes, the latest iteration of a car is clearly superior to the outgoing generation. This makes the decision to upgrade an easy one for owners, of course. By all accounts, the 992-gen Porsche 911 is an upgrade on the 991, at least in terms of performance. Whether or not it’s a better looking car, well, is a great topic of debate here in the Rennlist forums. Thus, we found this thread, started by forum member 96redLT4, to be very interesting.

“How many of you 991 owners anticipate moving to a 992? The reviews are continuing to roll in for the new platform. Performance characteristics seem pretty impressive. I’ve heard such bold statements as ‘it seems as fast as a GT3 RS.’ All the driving reviews are pretty positive, but in a heavier, more luxurious GT car that is just biding time waiting for the eventual hybrid gear. So I’m curious to know how many of you guys are getting tempted to write a big fat check.”

As were we. And unsurprisingly, there are plenty of folks who seem content to stick with their now “old” Porsche.

“Not me,” said awrryan. “The 991.1 is the last real 911.”

“Already wrote the check and bought a 2019 991.2,” added Thor’s. “Because aesthetically, I did not care for the 992 rear wrap-around facia and redesigned interior.”

“I plan on keeping my 991.2 C2s long term,” said dflowerz. “My car ticks all the boxes for me. The 992 does not have any compelling new features and I prefer the look of the 991.2. I am sure the 992 will be great, and if I was a new buyer maybe I would go for it. But I custom ordered my 991.2 and it is just perfect for me.”

Of course, a nearly equal number of folks have already made the decision to upgrade to the latest Porsche 911. The only question is when.

“I agree with one of the comments about the 991.1 being the last of the pure 911s,” admitted NJ991. “But I absolutely love progress and evolution. The 992 is a great looking car, and the interior is exactly how it should be. The shifter is out of the way, the tech is impressive, and it’s got a splash of luxury. I love it. I’m holding on to my 991.1 but will probably look to add a 992 a coupe of years after their release.”

“I’ll most likely trade my 991.2 GTS or Cab for a 992 Turbo S Cab, and my 991.2 GT3 RS for a 992 GT3 RS,” said reacher. “That’ll give me a couple of years to enjoy both cars before moving on.”

“I know I’ll want one,” admitted CCDD. “However, the real question is how long am I willing to wait before buying a 992? More than likely, I’ll wait till more versions surface and hype slows a bit to when deals will once again be available.”
