Cayman GT4 Clubsport Takes on 993 in Epic Nürburgring Battle

By -

Watch a classic showdown of old vs. new as this pair of Porsches do battle at the Nordschleife.

Champion vs. challenger, veteran vs. rookie, old vs. new. These are the epic battles we love to witness, no matter what the format. So when we caught wind of this epic Porsche throwdown via our pals at 6SpeedOnline, we had to share it with you. After all, its nearly eight minutes of action focuses on a veteran 993 911 trying to play catch up with the newbie – a Cayman GT4 Clubsport. And oh yea, it takes place on the legendary curves of the Nürburgring.

Now let’s be honest – the 993 doesn’t exactly have much of a shot here, even though it’s certainly not stock. But the guy behind the wheel, Sandro Ziegler, gives it one hell of a shot. In fact, Ziegler states that the only reason he is even able to keep up with the Cayman is meddling traffic. But we give him props for giving it the old college try. And for driving his 911 like he stole it.

Ziegler effortlessly handles some perilous moments that would have caused lesser men to soil their shorts. Yet he continues to saw away at the wheel and pound the shifter like a man possessed. Humorously (to us), he also yells at himself when he screws up. But it’s pretty clear that the loss isn’t his fault. His foe Martin Dreier and his Cayman GT4 Clubsport clearly enjoy a power and weight advantage here.

Still, we carry a bit of a soft spot for the old Porsche here. The 993 might not have the fancy tech or the PDK gearbox, but it has the edge in charm and rawness. So even though it lost the race, the 911 is a winner in our book.
