Can the Porsche 911 Turbo S Take Down a Bonafide Supercar?
This video may be a head-to-head competition, but everyone wins when a 911 Turbo S and McLaren 540C go against each other.
The Porsche 911 Turbo S is one of those rare cars that straddles the line between being a high-performance sports car and a supercar. Thanks to a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat-six that cranks out 580 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque, the 911 Turbo S can get to 60 miles per hour in just 2.8 seconds. And the coupe doesn’t stop there as it as it accelerates all the way up to 198 mph.
While the 911 Turbo S has the specs of a supercar, the vehicle is as easy to drive and as comfortable as a sports car. But another supercar has emerged with similar credentials: the McLaren 540C. The vehicle is the automaker’s entry-level model and, unsurprisingly, it has similar specs to the 911 Turbo S. The 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 generates 533 hp and 398 lb-ft of torque. The 540C can sprint to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 199 mph.
Clearly, the two cars are well matched. Motor1 UK wanted to see just how well matched the two vehicles are and decided to put the two against one another in a drag race, out on the track, and in an interior noise test to see which vehicle was quieter at 70 mph and found a clear winner.
While Motor1 UK managed to crown a winner of the two vehicles, there’s really no way to go wrong with either one. From our seats, the 911 Turbo S is the better all-rounder, the vehicle we’d choose to drive everyday. The 540C, though, is the more exotic choice for a track day. Find out if Motor1 UK agrees with us in the video above, and be sure to leave your comments down below.
