Another Stellar Sales Month for Porsche

If buying a Porsche is such a luxury expenditure, then why does it seem like everybody’s doing it?

Well, technically, when you get right down to it, 4,578 vehicles — the number of Porsches sold last month in the U.S. — isn’t exactly a large swath of the American public, but it is a 7.3 percent increase over the same month last year. And that does bring the total number of vehicles sold in the U.S. up to 22,226 for the year. Which is quite a healthy sum, considering they’ve sold 1,311 more cars this year than in the same duration of their record-setting 2015.

Leading the charge yet again are the marque’s SUV offerings. 1,426 Porsche Macans were sold in May, compared to 1,046 during the same month last year. As far as yearly Macan sales go, they’ve moved 6,907 units in the U.S. thus far, compared to 5,183 last year. The Cayenne also contributed, with 1,293 units sold in May versus 1,392 in May of 2015, and 6,777 yearly units versus 6,691 in the previous year.

Though fewer 911s were sold in the first five months of 2016 (4,175) then 2015 (4,259), May 2016 showed strong growth over the previous May (993 versus 841). Boxer/Cayman models were down this May (508) versus last (611), but 2016’s total sales (2,675) are up when compared to the same period during 2015 (2,621).

And interestingly enough, the exact same number of Panameras sold this May as last May (358), although the year over year figures are still lagging: 1,692 versus 2,055. Hopefully that will change with the upcoming remodel.

Still, any way you slice it, it was another good month for Porsche Cars North America, Inc.
