911 RS Tribute Wows ‘Coffee, Cakes & Classic Cars’ Crowd
E-Type U.K. and DM Historics hosted their first event of the 2020 season at their workshop in Kent, England.
With so many automotive events, being postponed or canceled around the globe lately, it is good to see some that continue to carry on. On the second Saturday of March, about 50 cars and nearly 200 guests met up at the workshop shared by E-Type UK and DM Historics. It was the first Coffee, Cakes and Classic Cars event of 2020. The event not only gives people a chance to check out the workshop and the cars on display but also raises money for a local charity. £120 was raised by guests and that amount was matched by the show hosts in support of the MS Society UK.
This being England it naturally rained the day of the show. The show also was heavily slanted towards British cars, however, there were a smattering of Porsches including a lovely 911 SC – RS tribute car. A real RS is, of course, a rare and wonderful car. It is also priced out of reach for most people that have not found a successful social media platform. That being the case, the tribute cars are a great way to get the thrills and looks of the real thing without spending a fortune.
The car displayed at the event is being offered for sale by DM Historics. Starting life as a 1981 model 911 SC it was converted to the RS look around 2013. It was treated to the flared rear quarter panels and of course the famous “ducktail” rear spoiler. The bumpers were also replaced to match the RS period look. The car is painted in beautiful Porsche Hellblau Metallic (Ice Blue) and shows well. There were plenty of Jaguar E-Types at the show, and many consider them the most beautiful cars ever made, but the Porsche tribute car certainly held its own.
E-Type UK, as you can probably surmise from their name, focuses on the restoration, upgrading, and selling of the iconic Jaguar E-Type. They had on hand for the event what they refer to as their ‘Ultimate Specification Series 3’ E-Type. They entertained the crowd by firing up the fully rebuilt and re-bored 6.1-liter V12 engine. It is fitted with a custom individual throttle body fuel injection and offers far more performance than a standard Series 3 E-Type.
DM Historics lean more towards the sales and support of historic racing cars. As such, they took the opportunity to show off some of their race car creations. This included a Jaguar Mk1 that makes regular appearances at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, an FIA Morgan Plus 4 Super Sport Low Line previously raced at Le Mans Classic and, the latest addition, a 1957 Hillman Minx.
Despite the weather, the event was a success. Marcus Holland, the founder of the two shops, commented: “It was an honor to once again welcome hundreds of automotive enthusiasts to our state-of-the-art workshops at North Frith Farm, Kent. Beginning the year by showcasing the latest projects and stock from both businesses, surrounded by like-minded petrolheads and raising money for a local charity, was a privilege. Join us at future Coffee, Cakes and Classic Cars event to experience pure automotive passion in the Kent countryside, with dates to be announced soon.” Hopefully, these future events include a few more Porsches in the mix.
