Growing Family

With the introduction of the Taycan Cross Turismo, the electrified Porsche Taycan family has officially grown to two members. But, it seems, this could only be the beginning of what will soon become a much larger family of Taycans, one that could include both two-door and Cabriolet variants, according to a recent report from Autocar.

More to Come

Taycan boss Stefan Weckbach confirmed to Autocar that Porsche brass is currently discussing adding additional body styles to the Taycan range. That could very well include a less off-road-oriented version of the Cross Turismo as well, in the vein of the Panamera Sport Turismo, without the Cross Turismo's suspension lift, protective bodywork, and Gravel Mode.

Perfect Opportunity

"I can't tell you today if we are really going for something like that," Weckbach said. "But the platform is perfect for future additional product ideas, and we are thinking in different directions." That includes a Cabriolet Taycan, Weckbach acknowledged, but he also noted that Porsche would have to determine that market demand for such a product currently exists before actually producing it.

Less and More Likely

Meanwhile, the two-door Taycan is the least likely of these models to actually make production. While it would appease sports car fans, it's unclear if enough people would be willing to give up the utility of the four-door model just for the sake of looks. More possible is an entry-level all-wheel-drive Taycan, which would complement the already popular base two-wheel-drive version that recently launched in the U.S.

Expanded Future

It'll be interesting to see just how Porsche decides to expand the Taycan range, but at the moment, it seems pretty inevitable that it will happen. One thing's for sure, however - the future of Porsche will involve a pretty large lineup of electric vehicles, whether they're wearing a Taycan badge or not.
