5 Things to Consider When Buying a Cayman

We've got a list of the 5 major things you'll want to consider before purchasing a Porsche Cayman.

1 - Mileage

It's no secret, when it comes to purchasing a Porsche Cayman Boxster, you will want (and need) to consider how many miles are on the odometer before making your final decision. The lower the mileage the better the driving experience. However, the lower the mileage the more you can expect to pay for the car. Bottom line: It is generally agreed that you should avoid purchasing a high-mileage Cayman unless you are willing to put a lot of money into the car.

2 - Factory Warranty

The Porsche Cayman is a notoriously expensive vehicle to repair and maintain through the years. That's why the majority of Cayman owners urge prospective buyers to consider the factory warranty and how many months are left on it before signing on the dotted line. You don't want to get stuck having to pay for expensive repairs that an active factory warranty would otherwise pay for. It is important to note the radiator overflow tank is known to leak early on and rear main seal drips have also been reported in the first few months to a year of ownership.

3 - 2013 vs 2014

When choosing between the 2013 Porsche Cayman and the 2014 Porsche Cayman, you may want to consider going with the 2014 Porsche Cayman. Not only is the 2014 Porsche Cayman all new, but it is a considerable upgrade from the 2013 Porsche Cayman, particularly in terms of features, performance, and driving experience. The construction of the newer 2014 model also allows for a more "athletic" feel on the road (even while driving at top speeds). Bottom line:  The road feedback on the 2014 Porsche Cayman is reason enough to choose this model year over the previous.

4 - Packages

When it comes to the Porsche Cayman, there are a number of performance-oriented items and top-rated options to consider. Opt for the sports option on the 2014 Porsche Cayman and enjoy the launch control system, which allows for the smoothest and most memorable starts from a standing position. Or simply upgrade your original equipment manufacturer (OEM) brakes for fade-free stopping power every time. Bottom line:  The Porsche Cayman offers additional packages that are well worth their expensive price tags.

5 - Interior

As with any Porsche, you will want to check out the interior before settling on a specific model year or era. Overall, the Cayman is known as a "sleek" and "attractive" car (both inside and outside). The 993 period is particularly praised for being a "solid" buy among Porsche lovers, while the 996 era is generally seen as a "hit or miss," offering very little by way of interior style. The 997 era offers the greatest bang-for-buck ratio and is rated quite favorably among Porsche collectors. Bottom line: Plop yourself down and give the interior a good inspection before signing on the dotted line.
