1. Volkswagen
Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was the CTO of Volkswagen before World War ll, in fact, he invented and designed the legendary VW Beetle that we still see on the streets today. Later on, in the '60s, Porsche and VW collaborated to produce the iconic Porsche 914, 916, and 924. So does Porsche actually owns Volkswagen? It is actually the other way around; Volkswagen owns Porsche.
2. Audi
Audi is one of the best-selling luxury automobiles in the USA, along with BMW and Mercedes, but what are their association with Porsche? Well, Volkswagen Group has is a majority owner of Audi, and they own 99.55% of it. So the relationship between Audi and Porsche is quite clear, they have the same parent.
3. Bentley
In 1931, Bentley was bought by the legendary British Rolls-Royce. In 1971, Rolls-Royce was going through financial issues, the British government split-off the cars into separate companies, the Rolls-Royce Motors Limited, which included the Bentley company. After Rolls-Royce was sold in 1998, Volkswagen made an offer on the Bentley brand, and Bentley became owned by Volkswagen, which also owns Porsche.
4. Lamborghini
The Lamborghini is one of the most famous Italian sports car in the world. The company was founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini in 1963, and the first Lamborghini produced was in the 1960s. The legendary brand had a successful run until the oil crisis in 1973, which forced them into bankruptcy, and the company was sold to Chrysler corporation. Chrysler Co. took control of Lamborghini in 1987, but it was unable to maintain profitability, and it was sold again to a Malaysian investment company called Mycom Setdco, along with an Indonesian organization called V'Power Co. in 1994. The extremely expensive brand continued to fail, and it was sold to Audi AG. So what is exactly Lamborghini's association with Porsche? Porsche is owned by Volkswagen, and Volkswagen owns Audi, and now Audi owns Lamborghini, so they are under the same banner.
5. Bugatti
Bugatti is another one of the legendary names in luxury sports automobiles. The brand used to be a French car manufacturer, founded by the Italian-born Ettore Bugatti. In 1947, Ettore died, and the son that was supposed to run the company after had died a few years before the father, in 1939. The company didn't see much success for a while after, and there were only 8,000 Bugattis ever made by that time. Shortly after that, Bugatti was bought because of its airplane parts, and now, Volkswagen owns it, which makes Bugatti and Porsche siblings.
