1. 1979 Porsche 935

Driven by Paul Newman, this 935 is one of the most successful endurance racers of all time. It racked up a 1st in class and 2nd overall finish at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans, along with overall wins at Daytona 24 Hours in 1981 and Sebring in 1983. After an extensive restoration, the 935 sold for $4,840,000 at the 2016 Gooding & Company auction in Pebble Beach, California.

2. 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder

Owned by comedian and well known Porsche enthusiast Jerry Seinfeld. this 550 Spyder was sold with an incredible 10,500 original miles. It's about as close to a brand new 550 as you'll ever get. That, coupled with the added value of being a celebrity car contributed to the $5,335,000 price tag it fetched at the 2016 Gooding & Company auction in Amelia Island, Florida.

3. 1960 RS60 Chassis 718-004

Porsche's four cam Spyder is an iconic race car in its own right, but this particular car is one of only four Works RS60's ever produced. It was raced by the team of Moss, Hill, Barth, Herrmann, Gurney, and Holbert. With few Spyders currently in the hands of private collectors, it's no surprise this one fetched $5.4 million at a 2015 Gooding & Company auction in Pebble Beach, California.

4. 1972 L&M 917/10 Spyder

The L&M sponsored Team Penske 917 is one of the most iconic Porsche racing cars of all time. It's incredible success began in 1972, when driver Mark Donahue injured himself in a crash while testing. Teammate George Follmer hopped in and proceeded to win 5 of 9 races and secure the driver's championship. Donahue came back the very next year and won another crown, with Follmer coming in second. All of that history and success brought a lofty $5,830,000 sale at the Mecum auction Monterey, California back in 2012.

5. 1982 956 Chassis 956-003

This particular 956 is the 3rd of only 10 built, making it a valuable car to begin with. But the price went up after it won five overall races, including the 1983 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 630 hp, twin turbo machine was raced by the team of Ickx, Bell, Schuppan, Holbert, and Haywood. It last sold at a 2015 Gooding & Company auction in Pebble Beach, California for a whopping $10,120,000, blowing away the initial estimate of $7-$9 million.
