Winter Testing

The fact that an all-electric version of the Porsche Macan is in the works is one of the worst-kept secrets in the automotive world and has been for some time now. Little by little, the sports car brand continues to tease us with photos and specs for the future crossover, and now, it has once again obliged by releasing some photos of the Macan EV undergoing winter testing.

First of Many

The Macan EV will be the very first Porsche vehicle to ride on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE), which was developed in conjunction with Audi to underpin a wide variety of vehicles, including crossovers, SUVs, sedans, and sports cars, with efficient packaging and next-generation charging capability.

Best in Class

One thing's for certain - the top performance version of the new Macan EV will have more than enough power to claim "best-in-class" capability, as Porsche is aiming for - a grand total of 603 horsepower and 738 pound-feet of torque, with a variable electronically controlled rear differential and what the automaker calls its "Performance rear axle."

Performance Minded

Another factor aiding performance is the Macan EV's weight distribution of 48 to 52 percent front and rear, while Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus - an electronically controlled differential lock on the rear axle - and rear-axle steering promise to help make the crossover both easy to maneuver around town and carve up corners at the track.

Fast Charging

In terms of charging capability, the Macan EV will utilize an 800-volt architecture that can take it from a five percent state of charge to 80 percent in just 25 minutes, if an appropriate fast charger is available. If it's charged using 400-volt units, the Macan EV can actually "split" the battery pack in two, essentially, charging both in parallel without the need for another HV booster.

Coming Soon?

It's unclear when, exactly, the Macan EV will be fully revealed and/or launch, but the process is certainly coming along nicely, and it seems as if a debut is mere weeks or months away at this point. In the meantime, we'll be keeping close tabs on Porsche's next potentially great electrified model.
