Old thread jack but I'll give a shot anyway. Possible job offer in CO, always loved what I've heard but still never visited. Possible job offer coming and thought I'd get thoughts or recommendations. Know a few who've lived in grand junction and Fort Collins and both loved both areas. Kids almost out of high school, will have 2-3 at home possibly so need three bedrooms and housing is WAAYY higher than upstate NY, not sure how people are living on their paychecks when I look at 250-300k for a 1,800 sq house. And I thought we were getting screwed here in NY.. we love to be active and are really sick of 5 months of clouds and snow/slush here in rust belt. I know they get snow which is fine, as long as the days warm up higher than 10deg, and the elusive sun shines more than once a week. We sometimes get a foot of snow and don't see sun or above 15deg for the next week which is tough on the psyche..
We are near the finger lakes which is great, not many lakes in CO that I see but if possible would love to be somewhat near one.

Good luck on the offer. Chicago native so I know the misery. Snow that stays on the ground so long it turns grey. Then black. Snow in Denver doesn't stay around too long. Dry air, lower air pressure, and the sun means it sublimates or melts away. No excuses to not be active. A bit of a curse.

It was near Colo. Springs but didn't work out. Either way I'm thinking of jumping ship sometime in the next few years so eyes are open. Hear Fort Collins/Grand Junction mentioned often by others. Guess that explains the cost of housing compared to my area where population is declining so fast

How bout grand junction? Have heard good things. Looks like no matter where in CO, I've missed the reasonable housing pricing. The weed I'm sure is making all kinds of band wagon smokers flock to the area as well. Just a guess..

Grand Junction would probably not be on the top of my list if you have the choice of any city in Colorado. Fort Collins is a beautiful city.

There are really a lot of lakes out here - we have a wealth of water activities available, from lakes to rivers.

In any case, yeah, it's getting more expensive to live out here. The housing market has cooled off quite a bit - just this year. I have my ear to the ground on all things real estate, so I would suggest now is as good a time as any to make the leap.

You can get reasonably inexpensive housing if you're willing to be outside of "the bubble" - the dead spaces between Colorado Springs, Castle Rock, Denver, Loveland, Fort Collins along the I-25 corridor.

I'm in Arvada which is centrally located between Fort Collins and the Metro Denver. Very nice area that gives you access to all areas in a reasonable time.
