Hi, I've decided to fulfill a longtime dream and own a 928 -- probably an '86 - '91 S4. Would love any advice from the folks here to help me make a good value 928 purchase (as much as such a thing exists).

-- Manual or automatic? Seems like a shame to have an automatic in this car, but I know around 80% of 928s sold were automatics.

-- Big maintenance gotchas to watch out for? (Timing belt, etc.)

-- What else??

Of course, any leads for good value 928s in California (needs to pass CA smog check) would of course be appreciated.
