Located in San Diego
Had an overseas buyer back out - she's back up for sale.
Picked this car up from the second owner's sister (which makes me the fourth owner).
Runs, drives, looks like a new car, apart from a few small issues noted below. Paint is mostly original, interior is very clean, original radio works. Aside from upgraded speakers in factory locations there are no modifications at all to this car. If you're looking for the last, and as some believe, best of the impact bumper cars, this is your car.
Options include:
018 Sport steering wheel with elevated hub
158 Radio "Monterey" - 86 "Reno" - 87 (it's a Washington)
395 Light metal wheels - forged
490 Hi-Fi sound system
533 Alarm system
C02 Equipped with catalytic converter
The story of the car:
The original owner bought the car new in November '88 from Lynnfield Imported Cars, INC (Lynnfield, Mass.). He drove it a little over a year, sold to the second owner in May, 1990 with only 12,159 miles on it. The second owner kept it garaged in Boston as a weekend car, and only got to put around 40k miles on it before he passed. His sister (here in San Diego) took ownership of the car in November '06 at 61K miles. I got the car from her two months ago. I have a clean carfax report that reflects all the ownership paperwork I have. The car has a clean title, and it's registered in my name.
Exterior - All original Guards red paint in fantastic condition. Passenger side rear quarter, and a spot on the top of the passenger side fender have been repainted, quality and color match are excellent. I see no record of damage in the carfax and everything looks fine underneath these panels, so I'm not sure what the story is. There are a few minor scratches (see photobucket gallery). Wheels have original paint and anodizing. All seals and rubber trim are black and pliable. Targa top has been redone recently and is in excellent condition inside and out.
Mechanicals - Runs and shifts amazing. Like a new car. No smoke, no oil consumption, no leaks. Cosmoline still on everything.
Suspension and steering is tight and responsive, brakes are solid, tires are brand new (installed after photos were taken).
Interior - I replaced the drivers side 8-way power seat with a 12-way. I still have the stock seat. Drivers seat has one small tear in the bottom, near the back. Passenger seat has some blemishes - it looks like the dye may have pulled and they had it re-dyed in spots. Despite these minor blemishes, the interior looks immaculate. Dash is uncracked and warp-free. All ***** and levers look and function as-new. Stock Blaupunkt Washington works well, and I even have the red cassette-lock with keys! Carpet is in excellent condition, with floor mats and protective mats. Front speakers are aftermarket and work great - much better than the factory units they replaced (no cutting or modification necessary) Steering wheel looks great, and gauges are in excellent condition - no faded or "lazy" needles.
Small issues - The throwout bearing makes a little noise when it warms up, and the sound pad should be pulled out or replaced. Paint has a little discoloration on the tops of the fenders close to the windshield, but the paint is still shiny - Couldn't capture it in photos. AC is all there, but makes noise when running so the belt is off.
Car includes factory toolkit, compressor, spare tire, and dealer directory.
Overall, this car is stunning. All factory finishes are still shiny and in great condition - look at the photos of the trunk! It's rare to find a car this clean, original, and unrestored. Great collector or show car, good candidate for PCA Preservation class concours - or just start driving it like it was meant to be!

I had a price, but now it's an auction - See link, in bold, above. Over on the bird you can have a sale thread without a price if it's an auction. Not sure what the rules are here.. if I'm breaking them I have no problem with the thread being closed.
Thank you for your interest.
