Having a trailer built and I can supply the TPMS system --
would you go internal to the wheel or external?

I guess this would come down to personal preference. I have had sensors mounted both ways over the years and I prefer internal.

The reason I switched to internal was because of tandem wheel configurations and the need for long valve stems which isn't
likely to be a problem on a trailer application. There is no performance difference between the two I'm aware of, I just like
having everything inside just like vehicles that come equipped with TPMS from the manufacturers. Also, battery life is such
that they last longer than the recommended change intervals for your trailer tires (5 to 7 vs 3 years).

I did not see anyone post highway operating temps or pressure noted from these systems.

I've not done a system yet, but it did make me wonder what temps were happening on my trailer. a little more rudimentary, but had a 12 hour ride this weekend, so I took my infrared thermometer an shot the trailer tire sidewalls and wheel by the lug nuts at each stop. what I found (trailering around 72-5mph, 16" rims, marathon tires, about 8000# trailer, ambient temp mid 70's) by the time I was stopped, all 4 tires sidewalls were about 104 degrees, 3 wheels at lugs 95 degrees, 1 wheel 104 degrees (not sure why, but don't think it's enough to make me pull the bearings apart).

nothing to report about that, but without anyone's data from their fancy TPMS system, I felt that maybe these ballpark numbers might be of interest to someone

I have a tri-axle trailer with 8,000 pound axles. Tires are 215/75R17.5

I usually see a 15PSI increase and 10-15 degrees above ambient.

interesting. you are seeing 10-15 degrees above ambient, I'm seeing 30. Could make sense if we are measuring differently (for instance, me at the outer sidewall vs you at the valve cap if you are getting temps from TPMS system.) If we are measuring the same way, then my 8000# trailer with two axles is working the tires MUCH harder.

I'm measuring at the valve cap (via the TPMS)

Anyone know of a TPMS that has a video out that can display on another monitor?

Trying to reduce the "monitor" clutter I would have on my dash.

thx,

Mike

Don't know of any aftermarket TPMS with a video out. The trend appears to be toward wireless integration. The companies that build the OTR rigs offer integrated Navigation systems with built in TPMS as an option, same goes for many class A motor homes. My guess is some kind of a plug and play module will come along that allows folks with Navigation to integrate TPM info on their existing display.

My Sierra gets video input from cameras mounted to the back and inside my trailer via a WIFI signal. That feed can be viewed on my navigation display by toggling one view at a time or split screen or any number of combinations. The TPM info is also transmitted via WIFI albeit to a dedicated display. I'm guessing it wouldn't be that hard for somebody that's tech savvy to find a way for the TPM to link to the Nav display the same way the cameras do.

I like your idea of putting all info on one display, kind of like a Motec for your truck.

Let's hope not. A MoTeC TPMS would probably cost $4k.
I would love to see an integrated system but am not going to hold my breath.

I just installed the one Bob originally mentions on my truck and trailer. I'll see how it works tomorrow as I go pick up my car from the shop. Install was simple and immediately warned me that after sitting for a month, all my pressures were low.

Tried out an EEZTire 4-tire setup with my X5 & Trailex Enclosed for 300 miles. Worked great. No signal issues. The build quality is good, easy to setup and use.

I'm reading on their site that sometimes larger diesel trucks need a repeater unit. Anyone here with the EEZTire and a longish trailer/diesel have experience?

X5 (sone to be GLE) and Trailex here, so short length. But I wonder if internal TPMS vs valve stem TPMS would be another factor. Assume RF for internal needs to pass thru more materials. Same for location of receiver on towing rig (material densities).

Even if repeater is needed, peace of mind when towing, TPMS is a no brainer, just do it (whatever is needed) and get it working.

I have the EEZRV TPMS system on my Ford F350 pulling a 24' trailer. I recieve data from all sensors including the spare in the trailer without a repeater

^^This looks simple to install and easy to use. I think I'll give it a try. Thanks!

A smart thing they did was put an internal battery in the main unit (60min run time), so you can take it out of the vehicle when setting up.
