Default Explosion of SPB

Saw another post on "which class is more competitive" so did some research on rennpoints results and here's the SPB car counts over the years:

2008 -> 10 (first year)
2009 -> 33
2010 -> 51
2011 -> 59
2012 -> 57
2013 -> 69
2014 -> 115
2015 -> 131
2016 -> 132 (so far)
2017 -> ???? (I know 4 more new racers joining us from TX next year and heard about a lot of NE racers getting cars...)

The only other classes that are close are E and SP3 with each having around 70 nationally. SPB seems pretty damn healthy and competitive!

We should have 3+ for next year as well in the SE.

This class is ridiculously competitive and packed with talented drovers.

Hopefully my car will be done and running in RM regional events next year ... as to the competitive and talented part, that may have to wait.

Love this class. It's affordable (relatively speaking) the cars are reliable and the racing is close, really really close.

Epic! No class comes even close -- probably in PCA history? For the ones on the outside looking in: come on in, the water is great! You'll always have 4-5 cars to play with no matter your pace.

That's the reason I decided to build an SPB, I was sick of showing up at races and only having 1 or 2 other cars in my class. Off to Road Atlanta for a third test weekend in two weeks, after that the car should be ready to race.

I do love this class. I love that its growing too. I think there are some things we can do to make it easier for people who are starting from no car, no spares to jump in and still be competitive...we should consider how to make it easy for people to slip into the ranks by finding some alternatives in the rules to OEM parts that are 20+ years old now...

There have been many very competitive classes over the years. F troop, C1, C3, C4, GTA and D (former G) class used to be epic. All these classes had folks that had won in multiple classes.Just because a class is big does not make it the best; it really depends who is in the class that matters.

Can you provide a list of names for us that might garner respect for our class? It would really be great if one of them could race with us to lend us a little credibility as a racing class. Thanks in advance.

And what makes a class 'the best'?

A big class is a plus because it improves everyone's odds of having a cohort to race with, regardless of their pace or skill. Otherwise it's just DE.
