Default New 996 Turbo Owner

This is basically a repost of my thread to the regional sub-forum but here goes nothin':

I just bought my first Porsche, a 996 turbo (6spd Coupe - black on black), 2 weeks ago (awaiting delivery from Porsche of Tyson's Corner). My wife and I are recent transplants to North Dakota (newish job) and I am looking for a Cars & Coffee or maybe a PCA North Dakota chapter. Probably a long shot, but it would be great to hook up with some fellow gear heads Anybody in Western North Dakota; North Dakota; near the Montana or South Dakota boarders etc?

Cheers,
Nick

Well, thank you for the reply! I'm going to be in the Seattle "area" for Thanksgiving with family. Are there any tracks or tracks you would recommend in the area?

I lucked out with the color combo. I would have bought any of them. It was a screaming deal and probably would have been very recalcitrant about buying sight-unseen if it were not for the seller - Porsche of Tyson's Corner.

I know I'm going to get much more attention than I'd like in North Dakota with this car, but is it more anonymous in Seattle?

Cheers,
Nick

So you're the one who bought that car? Congrats! That was a hell of a deal. I used that car to convince the Mrs. that not buying a Porsche was financially irresponsible.

Congratz! I like your usename OP. Auburn area has Pacific Raceways, you should check it out.

There is something therapeutic about driving a 911 turbo....

Nope. Nobody at all. I don't believe anyone lives there.

Sorry, just couldn't resist. Congrats on the new car and welcome!

Road King: Thank you for the kudos. I am really excited. As for pics, all I can post are a few of the cars "imperfections" - full disclosure stuff from Tysons Corner. As I said, I'm waiting on delivery. I worked a new clutch into the deal, so after the new clutch goes in it then they'll put it on a truck. According to my "Service Specialist" contact in the service department the part was back ordered but should be arriving in the DC Metro Area on Saturday. Here is a pic of its ***, the ones with me grinning ear to ear next to it and in it etc are to follow :

It does have a nice ***!

D.K.: Thank you for the kudos. Yes, it was a pretty good deal. I'm a little nervous about the mileage (101K), but the more I read on the forums, here, the less nervous I am. Also, I'm absolutely not afraid of maintaining it myself. I can handle pretty much anything that isn't ripping into a head or crankcase (catastrophic engine surgery).

Had the same discussion with my wife! Bummer part is that she gets road sick and she threatens to upchuck in the car if I drive it enthusiastically. I guess I'll just have to make sure she gets enough seat time behind the wheel and maybe she'll get over the road-sick! In the end, she did give me her support. I have a high-stress job and it is cheaper than therapy, after all

Cheers,
Nick

Docboy: Young doctor? You probably understand! I'm a "youngish" attorney that just got my first decent job (not working a million hours anymore - more stability etc...). I've always been a gearhead. In college I had an old ragtop mustang with a little money in the motor and I loved it - got into a little trouble - and the modifications made the car less reliable. So I got rid of it and have kicked myself ever since. Now that I can afford another "fun" car, and have the restraint to take highly spirited driving to the track, I could have gone newish 5.0 (great car) but I wanted something a little more unusual this go 'round! So, here I am. I look forward to detox drives after work.

I'll have to sort out the different suggestions on here and pick one of these track recommendations to check out for Thanksgiving

Cheers,

KCattorney: No offense taken. I totally get your drift with the location. Growing up in Alaska, I never imagined living in North Dakota. It's nice here, just never really knew anyone lived here either

Thanks for the kudos!

I got one pic of its back-side posted. Sort of lame, I know. But the rig is sitting in the shop at Tysons Corner in the DC Metro Area until the parts come in for my new clutch (I'm told they should be there on Saturday). Once they've shoved the clutch, engine, and transmission back into the car they'll put 'er on a truck to good ol' ND.

You folks in Kansas have more going on than corn and oil, right?

Cheers,
