I should have a 997.2 GT3 coming in, great drivers car, clean PPI, 36k mileage.

It's now towards the end of the summer, my plan was to drive it as is until the winter when I put it away and have plenty of down time to do the following: coolant line fitting fix and LSD rebuild.

Saw Steve's engine-in DIY pinning. And, also the alarming 15-20% failure rate (coolant loss) in stock (no fix) motors.

Car will be a daily driver, but like my previous F80, be tracked 1-2days a year. 1st track event won't be till next season (2017).

The shop I will probably go with is TPC Racing, who weld, but they pressure test @15psi to assure weld integrity.

So do I...

Just had my 08 GT2 welded at TPC. Great experience. I don't see a reason for you to rush. Wait and have TPC do the work, and do it right.

There is nothing wrong with pinning - if done properly.

15 -20% failure rate for pinning? Where did that come from? I've got a 100% success rate on my n of 1. Only way to know the failure rate of pinning is to track a large number that have been pinned and track failures. Shrakwerks developed pinning and likely do a large number. Did they report this failure rate? Or more likely is this Internet Statistics where someone pulled a number out of their a$$.

To answer your question, do what makes you comfortable. Just don't track the car until it's done.

As long as someone competent does it they both are fine and both have risks

Excuse my syntax. I meant a 15-20% failure rate for coolant loss in GT3s not pinned/welded (stock motor)

to not pin/weld is like jumping out a plane without parachute. you will LAND at some point.....

pin/weld if done right both are fine. there's no need to argue what is better.
pin weld if done wrong, both fail

i have variations of all of the above.

Never heard of a pinned line that failed subsequently.

I agree, there is overwhelming evidence that some sort of fix is needed, my question was do it now or can I wait 3-4months...

If you track your car you have obligations to those you share the track with. Fix it ASAP. If this is just a daily driver, then the worst that is likely to happen is that you will get stranded, and your timeframe is far more open.
