Sport exhaust backfiring and farting
I learned something today. I took delivery of my 2017 Targa 4S about three weeks ago. Prior to that I owned a 2014 GT3, TT CAB as well as many Ferrari's. I love an aggressive sounding sport car.
The Targa is everything I expected EXCEPT for the SE. When letting my foot off the throttle it crackles, pops and farts very similar to a low powered car with an after market cheap cheesy sounding exhaust. The sound is akin to a Honda Civic with a RS wing on its back. A total turn off to me.
When I mentioned the issue on another site, it was suggested that I engage the sport exhaust but not the sport or sport plus modes. I tried that and lo and behold it worked. No backfiring or farting. So if you have similar concerns you might try this. The backfiring and farting is muted significantly.
It could be I my be more sensitive to this issue based on my previous car ownership and I get that. Still at least to me it is unacceptable.

That's a feature of PSE. I'm still torn on it myself - I think it's over the top and fake sounding.
Wish they would have skipped the crackling noises and just made a nice toned louder exhaust with PSE but I guess we have jaguar to thank for it!

Just stay out of Sport Plus. All the over-runs from the DME occur in sport plus.

I assume this the "older" crowd. Ones with a mortgage, a wife, and a couple of kids. Not there yet myself, but I do love me some PSE action

And PSE on the .2 sounds very different than on the .1

I dislike this sound very much. When I ordered my 991.2 4S - I didn't pick the sports package for this reason.
I did add other components of the sports package omitting this PSE. I know a lot of you like it - but I agree with the thread starter that it is very over the top.
I know I am in the minority on this opinion.

Buddy of mine has a Lambo Huracan - and it makes that noise A LOT. At first I thought he broke his exhaust till I realized it's supposed to do that.
It's the reason I don't want PSE. Besides, I think the exhaust is plenty loud without PSE - even with the turbo engine now.
