I'm totally new to p cars and joined to look for info before I jump into it. I'm fairly familiar with a lot of cars and handy with regular stuff. I'm looking for a daily driver C2S or C4S, but wonder if it make sense to hunt for one in US or look locally. Most likely a 2006+, what should I look out for?

As you've probably noticed, cars for sale in the states are a fair amount cheaper on average. If importing doesn't scare you, you get a better selection in the US, though from what I've seen thus far, you give up about half the price difference on average by the time you get it up here and registered. Still nothing to sneeze at, especially if you can find exactly the car you're looking for in the bigger market.

I would advise: buy local.
If you can find one with a nice history.

Thanks for the replies!

I did notice the price difference and better selection in the US. Local inventory is basically non-existence !

If locally, any pointers as where to look ?

I think the government website is the called REV. It should provide you with all the information you need to import a car with all the associated cost, etc. I would think the only thing you need is to eyeball the car you find. I was lucky when I imported my m3, a buddy of mine had a cousin close by and he went down to check it out for me.

Then once you find the car you want you need to find a cartage company to ship the car to the can/us border.

Suggest you contact Weissach Performance. They are great supplier of used 911's of all ages. Some of their cars they have brought up from US. With the CDN $ now down about 5 cents (to buy) prices are getting closer. However, down the road a US car normally has a slightly lower resale price. Try and go no older than a 997.2 to keep the IMS problem at a far reduced issue. Not sure if this means 2008 is ok as not as familiar as to when the .2 came out as I should be. Friend of mine just bought a 2007 997 C4S cab with full leather interior in Montreal (36k miles) for around $60k and as it was being put through a Porsche dealer was able to obtain 2 year Porsche Certified Preowned (CPO) warranty for $3k.

Wouldn't it defeat the purpose if buying a US car from weissah? I don't mind doing all the importation work and done it once with my cousin before.

But regarding to 997.2, would it be a high maintenance car? I can do complete brake change/flush, exhaust or oil extraction, suspension swap and etc. other than these regular things, anything else I needa look out for?

I bought locally. It took several months to find the car I was looking for. I think there are couple available on the Vancouver Craigslist.

I've been looking for a few months already and finally joined this forum. But at the end, I have a feeling that I would find it from the States and have it imported.

My good buddy was searching for a while to find just the right car and he finally did...in Calgary. You may want to check some of their dealer sites since the oil patch is not doing so well. Good luck.
