I'm sort of cross posting, here:
Sounds like I need a (restoration) project. After I test drove a 1999 Carrera 4 two weeks ago exactly (time goes by so slooowly) and then saw this:
also a Carrera 4 but a 964:

I'm thinking restoration is a valid and poor man's option for a daily driver, eh? How difficult is it to import a project car from say, the US, and find a restorer in Canada?

Are you after a 964 or a 996?
If I was to go for a 996 it would be a 2003+ with a skirt kit or a GT3 or GT2. The car would have to be really condition since a restore would not be economical.
For a 964, you would have to get a really good deal to consider a full restore and even at that you would need to own it a few years to break even. Definitely not a poor mans option....not even close.
