My C2 is a LHD, I heard that RHD 911 has pedals off set to one side. Anyone tried both and how much of a difference is there? and is it that noticable?

I also own a LHD carrera
The only bother for me is getting in and out of car parks- otherwise I have no probs.
I know that I am driving a car the way it was initially designed.
I don't know about RHD but the pedals in mine are just right.

Ive not tried a LHD but on the RHD your legs are angled towards the left all the way down.
Its immediately noticeable.
But its not a problem unless maybe you have any physical problems from the hips downwards.

I am actually. How did you guess. It's actually my no. plate. I got it from e-bay from a guy who didn't know much about Porsche, otherwise I would've had to pay much more for it.
I am also pleased that the car I'm driving is the way it's meant to be, no compromise..... but really, at least 50% of the reason why I got it was the price difference. I just wasn't going to pay £8000 to sit 2 feet across.

I've tried both LHD and RHD and think the RHS are a bit compromised in the sense that they're more offset and have less space for your clutch foot (on the 964 no space). Actually, as I am 6"6' I don't even fit properly in the RHD cars, thus I was happy to buy LHD. That and the fact that they're quite a lot less and, in my opinion, not a compromised conversion. If its a weekend driver, like mine was, its really not an issue unless you go to McDonalds quite a lot (and if you do then you shouldn't be driving a 911 :P ). For everyday driving I can see it would be slightly more annoying.

I love LHD... much nicer than RHD (even here in the UK). Never had an issue at all; not even with overtaking.

Well, I apologize for bursting in on your left hand drive party but sorry lads RHD is way better. The RHD car demands a premium because thats how cars for this country were designed. Easier overtaking, easier drive thru's etc etc etc.

But the real reason is that, and i'm dreading typing this cos I know you boys aint gonna be happy, but lhd cars look cheaper. Because they are. And people know they are too. Sorry.
But thats why I stuck with RHD. All my cars have been RHD and always will be as long as I live in the UK.

Anyway, sorry to interrupt.

I agree entirely, that's why one of my very good friends wouldn't be seen dead in a LHD car with UK plate. They are a lot cheaper and is going to stay that way. Therefore, only people like us who don't care much about being seen driving a more expensive car and can put up with some minor inconveniences will be able to take the advantage of driving a LHD car in UK. It also helps if you take the car to mainland Europe quite often as well.

Dave, I disagree completeley with your point about LHD cars looking cheap (even though I know what you mean).

Think it this way, surely the cars look EXACTLY the same, apart from the steering wheel location, no? So, the cheapness you refer to is purely psychological. So, by that rationale you look cheap anyways because you have an 'old' car. Point being, how can you draw the line? Whats looks cheaper, a 1990 RHD 964 or a 1998 LHD C4S??

An added thing which puts me off the RHD 911s (especially pre 996) is that many of the buttons and ***** are in completely the wrong place, like the fuel cap and rear engine lever (actually only those). Its a similar story to the just gone BMW 5 series which had the wipers set up for LHD even on the RHS cars. To me that is cheap.

I also have a RHD Smart car as our runner, I wish we went for a LHD 'cos on the shifter the auto button is set for a LHD, so you can press the button with your right thumb. Now I have to press it with my left middle or ring finger.
Anyway, my point is that these cars are designed as a LHD cars, and then "converted" to RHD for the people here. So you guys who are driving a RHD are paying extra for a converted non-original car!!

Nothing wrong with LHD (and no, mines RHD). I had an E30 M3 (all of which are LHD) - some of the best drivers cars are LHD (Integrale anyone?).

I'm now running a LHD E36 325 over the winter - its ace (and it was free!)

So I'm not 'voting' for either, there's no difference really. If I was looking at a car and deciding what to go for, my limitinh factor would be frequency of use - if I used it everyday for everyday driving then it'd have to be RHD. But if I used it everyday for 'fun' then I dont think it would really matter - esp if it was something rare (like an RS or something).

When people stop and gawk at me as I drive through central London in my LHD Speed Yellow 993 RS, I'm not sure.....but I don't think they're thinking 'look at that cheap car'

I wonder how many people beyond enthusiasts actually realise the price difference exists?

I was not prepared to pay £20K more for RHD. I don't care what anyone says but overtaking can be an issue if you're in a hurry, but I overtake for fun, not because I am in a hurry, so the challenge makes it more fun!!

I was once told by a specialist that when sitting in LHD porsches all controls are ergonomically perfect, RHD versions are not
