I think it is; do just one PCGB trackday and the member discount is equivalent to the annual membership fee.

PCGB trackdays are the oly ones I do (until we start doing Total 911 trackdays); they are very well organised and you get to chat to like-minded owners when you're not on track.

Porsche Post is a good read too.

i'm also a member although I do find the track days expensive.....

so have ended up on fastrakdays & easytrak days so far.... same tracks some other non-porsche which adds to the spice and less £'s !

porsche post is a great read.. adds another side to the world of porsche

as for the club, it's ok although it's forum is still learning !

can't wait for those total911 track days !

Great business...sorry I mean club if you own a 911 or Cayenne
But you dont, so maybe you would be better of joining TIPEC,
TIPEC
unless you are considering buying a 911

Mmmm, mixed reports. That makes it easy!

I must admit, I'm part of the TR clubs, and have been since I had my old TR6, and what Tim says certainly holds true. Just looking at the forums over on their site, it seems that there are quite a few active members in and around the Northampton area with 944's.

I guess in what I do (auto engineer, which means i travel a lot), I couldn't really participate to the level I wanted, so thanks for the input guys, I'll give it a miss and stick hanging out with the yanks over here!!!!!

Some more info/opinions
...................PS Dont bother asking the PCGB club to complain. Alan encouraged me to read the Porsche Post article about the new club agreement with the importer and the factory. I suspect its on the long list of things they arent allowed to say boo about to the importer now they have signed this agreement (e.g no criticism of the importer, no advertising modified cars or modifiers, (what will they make of Ruf, Gemballa Strosek et al - all illegal) no disparate look and feel on the websites, no grey import advertisers etc etc - I wonder what the point is of paying to be a member sometimes)

Just on Angus's PS,

My renewal paper for the PCGB turned up today. Bad timing. I have
decided not to renew. I didn't join them to be an extension of Porsche
AG, and especially not for them to be aligned with the (at best) patchy
Porsche Cars GB. So after 9 years, I've decided to call it a day.

The print of your car's original data sheet used to be free, then £10,
etc. I guess that £64 + VAT will go towards supporting all those new
UK dealerships. Like Angus says, I doubt the Porsche Club GB will dare
make a comment to the revered importers. It would have been a great
service for the club to provide for free to members.

regarding the new agreement between the club and the importers and
factory, I'm interested now that Porsche Club GB will not be able to
carry ads from specialists like Camtune and Autobahn, who import cars
parallel to the official importer. I think specialists have a role to
play, and many of the grey importers were the main driver in Porsche
Cars GB having to adjust their prices down a few years ago to align
more closely with the prices on mainland Europe. But for them, 996's
would have continued to cost 10% to 15% more in the UK than they do
today.

With this new agreement, the factory and importer will only recognise 1
Porsche club in the UK - so that TIPEC (who support a strong following
of water cooled Porsches owners pretty well) will not exist as far as
Porsche AG and Porsche Cars GB are concerned.

I guess that they won't miss my £50. Despite the fact that I've owned
4 Porsches (944S2, 964C4, 993C4S and now a 928GT), I know for sure that
I wouldn't show on the radar of Porsche Cars GB, with whom the club now
aligns so strongly.

I get 10% off my insurance with PCGB membership so it more than pays for itself. I have yet to attend a meet as most of the ones I do go to are arranged on here. I have had a couple of dicussions on here with PCGB members and based on those 2 I would say it is an elitist, sad group of people. Of course they can't all be like them I guess....? Make sure you get the 10% discount on your insurance and enjoy the Porsche Post.

Martin i can't begin to tell you how much bull **** you have just written. please get your facts right before you post such rubbish.

the only clause about advertising is that No new model cars (under two years old from model launch) can be advertised by unofficial importers.
Ruf and the like will in no way be affected by this unless they are trying to advertise there stuff on a new model car.

this contract is going to give the club a lot more clout to deal with members problems not less.

nothing has changed with how Tipec is seen by Porsche or Porsche Club GB. as im a Tipec Regional organiser and my husbands a PCGB director i should know better than most

Martin,

The only advertising no's are new grey import cars (can't see Autobahn or Camtune removing their adds as they still wish to move mostly 2nd hand machines - Ruf have never advertised anyway) and non-approved aftermarket kit for cars still under warrantee - ie an aftermarket spoiler for a 997. It's not as if there are no other mags to read if you want such goods. Any contract is a two way thing and at the moment the benefits appear to outweigh these minor requirements. Editorial independants for the magazine has been assured and there is no rule that says PCGB and TIPEC cannot meet or converse.

On a side issue - hate to hear the statement put around that PCGB is ONLY interested in 911s - on May 1st PCGB is holding a 'front runner' day at Cornbury House and I will put money on the fact that there will be a stack of 924, 944, 968, 928's in attendance disproving this view.

Members come and go and for some PCGB doesn't do it - that does not mean it is not a good club.

Hi Pikey,

When I was an Essex lad I was a member of the Essex PCGB and they were a great bunch; we had a lot of fun and no-one took it too seriously. When I moved to Pinner (NW London) I checked out the local chapter (probably not the correct word!) and I visited their annual show. It was a very dissapointing event with great cars but offensive, disinterested or absent owners. It completely put me off of rejoining. I would suggest you visit your local group and base your decision to do the local club stuff on that.

Cheers,

David

agree with Caveman. visit your local meeting and do come along to any events that are on to see what the club is all about.

just for the record every member of the PCGB is a member of the whole club not just a region so if you don't get on with your local bunch then your more than welcome to go to another regions meet at anytime. some members go to two or three a month

I was just doing some filing (bank holiday monday) and came across my joining form / invite. Which has made me think - should I join??

I've used the PCGB forum a bit, but it does not seem as lively as this one for example.

Can anyone advise on % of owners who join, etc.
