Your thoughts on a 2nd P Car as a workhorse
Tell me this doesn't sound as crazy as I first thought. I need a work car for me - business mileage around 15k pa. Don't want to put that on the 993 because it will then become a 25k pa car.
Budget wise, i'm not too fussed so a typical used 3 series BMW would cost around £12k.
I started to check out 944S2 and 968 prices. Seems that you can get a good S2 for around £8k or a good 968 for around £12k.
I think this is definitely the way to go. I've got a good maintenance guy who can do the servicing for me (Porsche mechanic).
Anyone got any thoughts on this or is the idea a bad one - I'd much rather be in an S2 or 968 than a hum drum 3xxi BMW or C class etc etc.
Thanks!
Ajit.

Three Wheelin'
I been thinking of doing this myself recently. I was thinking more along the lines of a 1971 911SC or even a little later model 1981 say. You can pick nice cars up for anything between 6 and 12k.

A 944 or 968 would be an excellent work car. Quite practical as well. Having said that, a decent late 325i would be cheap, fun car as well. I got an old 528i as a runarround to use for six months and now, four and a half years later, it is still running well...

With a budget of around £10k, the choices nowadays are endless.
What i'm weighing up is:
1 944 - cheaper than £10k too
2 968
3 Merc SL - circa 1990
4 Mini cooper
5 BMW 5 series
6 BMW 3 series
7 older 911
They all have their merits as work cars and are fun to drive in different ways. My bias takes me to the 944 - and its probably the cheapest to buy if not run.

I had a '89 944 turbo for 18 months which cost me £10K. Never gave me any problems, was fully loaded and a very good car. Wanted to keep it when I bought a 993 but couldn't justify it.
Now sold the 993 and bought a 2.4S which has a discrete 2.7 upgrade (engine, rear arches, pair of 7's and no duck tail or script). Pulls like a train

Seeing as you put the Mini Cooper in there - that could probably be your best bet. It still has the lowest depreciation in its class and with the TLC package you get nocost servicing too.
Saying that, the guy at the Cricketers Cruise who came in the white 968 bought it for that reason - his other car is a pristine (and I mean pristine) E-Type Jag - very nice (the 968 - oh, the Jags quite nice too )
my tuppence...
