Question Using the Advanced Search Functions

Is it possible to update the search function to add enhanced capability, such as:

o Ability to EXCLUDE terms (i.e. NOT 996)
o Ability to search for any one of a number of terms (ie. C4S or 4S)
o Ability to search for required terms in conjuction with the above (i.e. PCCB and (C4S or 4S))
o etc.

It appears that the only limit to the immense archive available here at Rennlist is finding the threads on point (and limiting the "noise").

Food for thought.

As a Member - you have access to full Boolean logic searches consisting of three logical operators:

* OR
* AND
* NOT

Soooo....... Try searching:

Mufflers 993
Next - search: Mufflers 993 NOT 996

About the 4th thread results - you'll see one pulls and where it's "996" - it's missing...

Food for thought....

Hi John -

One more question -

1) Can you add some text in the Advanced Search Window that tells members they can use boolean terms? I never knew that was available to "members".

What else is available to members--college tuition programs for our kids, 401K's, profit sharing, free bagels on Thursdays? Who wooda thunk it.

Food for thought......

The details were four children, grade points of a B- and up to 50% of the tuition expenses covered ? Damn - you missed that one too??!!! HOWEVER!!!! The bagel spiff was three weeks ago..?? I have some left overs though???

How do you feel about three week old bagels????

Default "how about word groups"?

Is there any abilitiy to search for discrete word groups, ie, via quotation marks?

eg, instead of <964 AND engine AND drop> which picks up dropped bolts, too(!)...
How about something like <"964 engine drop">

(though that last one could inadvertantly pick up the poor soul who literally dropped his engine on the garage floor last month!)

Angry Boolean Operators Not Working

Has anyone recently tried using the the boolean operators? I can't seem to get them to work.

I put in the phrase with the AND operator and it keeps returning all threads with any of the words I used in the search.

VERY frustrating...

Ummm, with this new initial user interface format, where did the Advance Search function go?

I'm trying to find posting with my user name and certain keywords, I can't seem to find this capability where it used to be under the Search function where I can select Advanced Search.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

EDIT: NVM, found the answer in post #2, learned something today I didn't know about..........
