Hey Guys - researched the forums a bit but nothing current. Who do you guys recommend in the GTA for Caliper painting (not powder) without a full rebuild and wheel refinishing? Can be separate, just want the best. Thanks
No reco on wheel refinishing but Simply Tire painted my badly faded original black calipers and they did a fantastic job. 5 years later and they still look great! Not sure if they still do it.
I would caution that wheel re-finishing can be hit or miss. In the past union has done good work for me, but as per above not all have had the same result. I have also had Carcones do wheels but the last set of cup 1's they did for me were crap (totally chipped after just 2 seasons, thin brittle paint), the speedlines they did before that were put in the box still wet and marked the lip (but they owned their mistake and re-did them perfectly). Last year I had a set of cup 1 reps done by dream tire in Burlington with good results, but they took months and I had to hound them to complete the job. The car is not on the road yet so I can not comment on durability yet. Pictured below.
Lately I have been using Fireball up in Erin for both paint and powder coating of wheels and parts, but again I have had inconsistent results. On my last batch they had to re-do multiple parts due to bad prep and ignoring my marks for areas to not coat. But the calipers they did for the 89 build turned out very well, but they were powder coated and completely disassembled. Calipers and engine bits pictured.
I believe simply tire is still doing calipers, and they can probably do the wheels for you as well. They mounted tires on my cup 1's that carcones did and the paint chipped on the lip. They recommend powder coating wheels and I agree (as long as they can match the OEM silver).
Whoever you choose be very detailed in how you want things done, giving the shop a printed list of instructions will hopefully ensure a good result.

I've had my son's racing go kart frame media blasted and powder coated at a menonite shop (I kid you not) near Elmira and they did an excellent job. Saw several sets of rims waiting pick up when I dropped the frame off so they do them to. They powder coat pretty much anything (know someone that had a 50's pick up frame done by them). And they are cheaper than anyone around by far.

Said that the finish can bubble because of off-gassing. He went on to say they generally have good results, but wanted to warn me they occasionally have had problems.
First I have heard of aluminum causing problems with powder coating. Anyone else heard of this??

The link talks about two things impacting the finish: contamination (fish eyes), and off-gassing (bubbles). So it looks like the gassing issue is "a thing".

Yes it is a thing, but IMO some coaters use that as an excuse to cover up bad prep or contamination (usually fish eyes that they then call off gassing to unsuspecting customers). Pre-heating is a good idea with Aluminum, this will help to drive out any gasses before the coating is applied.
Personally I would go somewhere else if they are not "comfortable" working with aluminum or if they say they do not pre-heat. But I have yet to find anyone in the GTA that will do work to my standards.
For what it’s worth, this time last year, Pfaff Tuning quoted me $292.50 + tax per caliper to paint (uninstall, disassemble, paint, reassemble then install).
No clue the quality, but I’d expect great results from them.
