I am taking off my old stone guards when I get Wes to correct the paint on my new 993. Can anyone recommend a shop that they have had a good experience with changing out stone guards?

I think the trick is to spray soapy water first then you can move them around and it is pretty easy. You should do it yourself. on the GT3 forum guys are putting stickers on themselves this way, and most of those guys don't do anything on their own

Do it yourself...it's easy. Go with the 5% soap water approach and it's a breeze.

I can do it for you but my rate is $200/hr :P

Its not putting them on as that's easy, its getting them off and that can be a BITCH

I had to have my 993 Q panel resprayed due to my efforts on a stone guard removal. Now that's 10 years older than my 997 but they can get baked on there. Some guys get them off easy, some guys not so much....

When I had my rear bumper resprayed at 427 Collision, I asked them to remove the stone guards and replace with the new ones I had bought. They did a good job

Wes at Orion said he would take them off for me, so maybe I will try and put them on myself if I can't find a shop that I trust.

If Wes is taking them off, then just get him to put the new ones back on. Should take him 5 mins once the old ones are off and the paint corrected

Unfortunately, he doesn't do that or PDR. Bought new guards this morning and may try it myself after Wes is done.

FYI, the guards the dealer will sell is the old 3M film. They will still yellow over time. The new Pro Series 3M film is thinner and is warrantied for 7 yrs.

My favourite is the thin Venture Shield -it's pretty much invisible and stays that way - but I'd go with the thicker version on the quarters. 3M is too thick, soft and yellows. I think Ronan has VS on his green car. I know, 3M bought it years ago but it's the same great product.

When Wes worked on my paint last summer, he took the car to John @ Auto-Links for full PPF & tint once he was done his correction work. So I would think that Auto-Links could do this job for you no problem.

And here's a consideration - if your side skirts are still in good shape, you can get the PPF film covering the entire side skirt then up and over the rear hips all in one single piece so no seams or edges. That's what I had done and I like it a lot better, and it provides way more protection, than the original stone guard 'patch'. More money of course though...

I just had the new 3M Pro series film applied to my car. I have the old 3M film all over the front of my car hood, bumper, lights etc. The new 3M film is a lot thinner than the original 3M film that was applied in 2011.
