Same old story.... guys who don't own or aspire to own a Air cooled 911 think it's over priced and slow. Guys who own one swear by them and will never sell.....Lather, rinse, and repeat.

Some love all the special quirks these old cars have, some hate it. I always get the feeling that there is some bitterness towards Air cooled owners that have bought years ago and there cars have doubled in price, while there water cooled cars are worth half as much from when bought new. In the end, to each their own.

Count me in category 1. They've WAY more than doubled. I sold my 72 for more than 6x what I paid for it in 2004. Enough to buy a 37,000 mile G50 cabrio that's almost brand new. In fact the deal came with a top-end rebuild because the car hadn't been driven enough over the years and wasn't making proper compression in one of the cylinders. No way I could afford to get into this market fresh these days. It's insane, and it makes me feel a bit bad for the younger generations that might never be able to know the thrill (and, yes, the quirks) of these old cars.

Porsches are all about passion. For me the look, smell and especially the sound of an air cooled Porsche is priceless. Working on them is like peeling an onion, the more I learn, the more clueless I feel. For the hobbyist as I am you could not do much better. And yes, any well sorted Honda can smoke it.

Well a 993 is certainly slow compared to newer car (excepting the 993 turbo). As far as price, that's up to the market and right now they're hot. But like most things, when it cools (70's muscle cars) then it will normalize. Most guys who have one say they will never ever never never sell so the price is irrelevant to them. I suspect many of them will actually sell at some point.

I had one, sold it and no real regrets. If I was a collector and wanted to put it away as an investment then I sold a bit early. But I drive my cars and I decided 2 pcars just wasn't for me at that time (I had the 993 and 997 for 3 years together).

The 993 is a nice looking car, compact rawer etc but also a bit dainty looking to my eye next to a more muscular and yes, bigger 997. The 997 has its quirks too but it is just a better driving car in general.

Enjoy what ya got

They ARE overpriced and slow... I still love them, respect them and aspire to own one. In fact, it was well in my past plan to purchase a 993. My three kids took priority, and now I just can't justify the expense. They are lovely cars, but the Porschephiles drove the price up to the point where I would rather purchase something else... If time and money present in the future, I will buy a 993, strip it, and make my own 993 GT2/GT3 variant. But it would certainly not be a DD, it would only be a fair weather summer car, and if the motor is left stock... well... I would want more power. My opinion can't be wrong... it's what I prefer.

2.2, 2.4, 2.7, 3.0, 3.2, 3.6. All fine cars if purchased with a critical eye. At some point I plan on adding an impact bumper car to the stable. Maybe build an IROC clone or backdate.

The bubble will probably never burst with these cars as the aging owners hold on to them until they either forget that they have the car, or their survivors sell it to their neighbors son for $5000 and 2 summers of cutting grass.
Air cooled owners at the next cars and coffee would like a word. LOL

Not Canadian, but IMO you will need to widen your search area from our small market or your hunt will be a long one if not indefinite.

This just posted on BAT.

There's a Arena Red 993TT for sale here in Victoria @ $160K (cdn?) car is out of the USA I think.

Check out http://usedvictoria.com/classified-a...Turbo_27821262.

Seller bought my '04 GT3 a couple of years ago.

lotsa cars out there
2.7 and 3.0 cars can still be gotten at decent prices. Many of the problems were fixed years ago.

I agree with many on here, you need both, air/water cooled. They both earn respect in their own ways.

As long as the water cooled one is a manual Ferrari right?
