I've had generally had the opposite experience locally, Shell 91 slightly inconsistent quality and PetroCan 91 or 94 'reliable'...that said, filled up the 911 with Shell 91 getting ready for storage (no ethanol) and it's running great as usual

I can say with certainty that the tune will not cause damage with 89 octane. The ECU Just because it is tuned for 93 does not mean it can only run 93. it can and will run 91 or even 89 but will limit boost and timing will not advance as far as a higher knock value from a 93 octane fuel.
yes, true cars are built to a level that most are consistent, but there is still room for improvement even on a factory stock car to make it perform better especially on a turbocharged car. machining differences efficiency differences of engines are still there.. you cannot take two brand new 991 turbo S toss them on a dyno and make the exact same power.
Having a tune does not mean that all factory safety systems are removed and a tuner is not only optimizing, it is completely re mapping the car for higher boost levels and to utilize the higher octane fuels through timing. It will still do exactly as the factory tune will do and limit boost, cut boost, retard timing etc.. if it suspects damage is possible.
The 997 turbo and newer Porsche turbocharged cars uses the knock values, engine load values etc.. to determine the amount of boost it will allow up to set max (1 bar and 1.2 bar in sport chrono for 997tt)

I can't help with the Chevron in Ontario Ron but I did just recently find out that the AC Delco fuel conditioner is supplied by Chevron - same juice as Chevron Techron. Bottle look familiar? available at most GM dealers in the GTA.

Thanks for info. I buy my Techron and V Twin oil in the US since I'm there a couple of times a year but this is good info for them that aren't. I "heard" the Petro Can additive is also Techron but have no way of knowing for sure.

my friend who took a delivery of his cayenne s back in july received a Petro Canada fuel discount car from Porsche Canada. (says you get 20 cents off 500L and Porsche recommends 94). I have been using Shell 91 V-power since 2008 on all of my vehicles and still love it so far. I might give Chevron 94 a try on next tank of gas and see what difference there is on my 991.2.

No one has mentioned this but I found years ago when fine tuning, that choosing a fuel pump that only served 94, appeared to have had better results than getting 94 from a pump that serves multiple grades of fuel. The thinking at the time was that I might be getting some 87 octane when the pump is switching back and forth between grades. The pump in the machine is the same and never loses its "prime" so it should always have some fuel in it.
I was running 11:1 compression, 3 sidedraft Weber carbs and NO ecu and running the hairy edge of ign advance. Yes old skool.

I have to let the first 2L out into a different gas can in order to get 100% of the octane I want when getting gas for my son's go kart. Or else, the gas will be mixed enough with the other grades to set off the gasoline testing probe during tech insoection.

Thanks but when I stopped into a GM Dealer today they wanted $22 per bottle.
