4L update with some pics
My brother and I went to Keltech Thurs to drop all our parts including the headers, plenum and gt3 TB. AWE cats should arrive in a couple of weeks
All the other parts like block, heads, cams and crank had already arrived at the shop. The head work is standard machine work to include checking for cracks, cleaning, refacing and a multi angle blended valve job. New valve springs added. The guides and seats are not in need of replacement but it will get new seals.
Crank and main bearings were recoated. New ARP crankcase bolts, new pistons and rods. IMS upgraded.
Should be ready for pick up in about 4 weeks including the break in he wants to do at the shop. Still discussing a tune given the bore and larger intake/exhaust
Here's some pics - enjoy

looks good Vern. should be a fun engine to drive.
for a tune you may want to see if Cobb has an application for you. They have a very neat package and includes datalogging, code scanning and is reasonable.

nicely done...hope more m96/6/9a1 owners choose a rebuild/improve route...hopefully an economies of scale improves and saves these cars/engines...
I would run and datalog the engine before considering 'tuning'...

Hmmmm naked engine ****. Keep it up.
While I love the engine, I like seeing the inside engineering of a build.
Don't forget video of first start up. 4.O will be fun.
Only 672 hours until - 1 = Intake, 2 = Compression, 3 = Power, 4 = Exhaust.

Unfortunately I may not be able to be around for the 1st start and the shop may not want to video in case it doesn't start

Run/drive the car with existing/factory tuning and datalog various engine to compare setpoints vs actual...will tell you if you need any real changes to the tune...N.A. Porsche's are pretty well tuned to start and have good safety margins.
Was wondering the same

Thanks for the data logging info. will take it up with the mechanic
Re bearings, cant recall. Think I have that info somewhere. At some point I just have to rely on LN and the mechanic

Nice, one day I need to resleeve but there are always other things that come up with higher priority. I am not sure you will need a special tune. I was told the computer automatically adjusts for it.

My "one day" came with the bore scoring unfortunately!!
And yes I have heard that the DME is pretty good at adapting but some suggested that with the increase in bore plus the larger intake and freer exhaust that its at least worth exploring
Thanks

They are stock porsche bearings coated by LNE. Not sure what they are coating them with. I went with the same option.
I was told repeatedly by LNE to NOT get a tune. My ECU hasn't had issues with my setup but you are doing a few extra mods than me. But they were pretty adamant about not letting just anyone touch the ECU, they've seen more bad than good come out of custom tuning on these NA engines. I would follow the advice of LNE for this. Charles and Jake designed these nickies and know best. This was briefly covered in one of Jake's classes.
Looks like it is coming along...looking forward to the next update.
Who did the head work?
