Well I decided on some of those Sailun tires for the A4 for the Winter. Not sure sure how long we will have the car so decided on these ones and we will see how they are for a couple of years.

got them for 386 or so for 4 plus tax with free delivery to my house.

now I just gotta get two spoons out of the drawer and mount them just like my bicycle tires.

Ya. Then pump some butane in and throw in a match.
Mounts them real nice.

I'm thinking:

Michellin X-ICE XI3
Continental WinterContact SI, or
Bridgestone Blizzak WS80

All have great reviews. Just looking at pictures the Bridgestone looks like it has the "meatiest" tread pattern which (maybe I have no clue here) leads me to believe it is great in deep snow as it can pack it into the tread (that's how they get grip in snow right?). The Michellin and Conti look less meaty and have "tighter" tread patterns, perhaps this is designed to give better traction on ice and better wear?

I had continental extreme wintercontact on my Jetta and they were absolutely fantastic. Price is right too.

Anyone care to provide their thoughts/experience with any of these?

I drive a fairly new Mercedes C350 4matic all year round. Using my experience from rally racing, I purchased the skinniest winter tires that match the required load rating (Blizzacks), and then found rims to match the tires. It looks a bit silly running around on 205s square, but the grip I have in snow and ice is tremendous as a result. Wide tires suck on ice and snow... go thin!!

Does it count as "thin" if only 1/3 of the tire is touching the ground?

Well now... that's interesting. Traction in the snow is not this owners biggest problem. So let's just let that one go!

..but to answer your question above, all 3 are great tires from my research, but feel Michelin is a better all-season than winter(from experience), Bstone and Conti better 'diggers'...Nokian/Haka's are also wicked winter tires...

Aren't Nokians too soft for a performance car like Porsche?

Subjective question...I think DOT-R summers are too 'soft' for my 911...I hate fresh(full tread) tires..
Simple answer is, drive within the limits of what the machine and components are capable of...
Winter tires are amazing at what they do, and the overall grip limits are fairly high, but you need to allow a greater transition time for the chassis to set...

Sailun wsl2 tires

2 full winters and 37,000km of winter driving with my jetta tdi.

Just took them off last night and they still have 7, 8,8,9\³²" tread depth left on 4 tires.

Happy with them. Fairly quiet, haven't ditched yet, haven't got stuck, a few pucker moments. Wear looks even.

Great tire for the price - under $400 for the set.

I've seen them on cars in the last few years. Any brand of winter tires is better than the best all season in the winter.

I have the sailun on my sons a4. Very good tire for the money. Zero complaints.
