Speculation in the 993 group is that Canepa will be asking $175K USD for this C2S: (Last year they wanted $110K)

Great write up Laurence, enjoy that.
The car mentioned above is sold, for what price is anyone's guess. But Canepa doesn't budge too much on prices from what I hear.

nice read Lawrence. Funny on my old 993 turbo the climate control system worked like a new car, and 6th gear was for saving fuel at highway speed and for the back straight at Mosport as it would hit redline in 5th a couple hundred feet from the hill.
Love the 993s. As for price a guy is selling a 95 coupe with 150k miles for 35 US in the classifieds.

I mean no disrespect to those who have paid "reasonable" amounts to a 964 or 993.
For anyone to pay $50-60k for a used 20yr old car with more than 140,000kms as an example is......

Ditto, though with 170,000 km on it, my car in some ways feels more solid than one of the new ones. It's terrifically well-made.
Old-car prices at some point become disjointed from objective measures like performance. What counts more is rarity and history. The more and the better of both, the higher the values jump...just look at any number of vintage Ferraris, many of which aren't half the cars that their contemporary Porsches are.

Well said Laurence. 6 years ago I traded in my 2007 BMW 335 pretty much straight up for my 27K mile 993. The BMW out performed the 993 in every aspect, some of my friends thought I made a huge mistake. Today that 335 is worth 17K tops compared to what my 993 that is worth close to 4 times that now.
All that aside, values mean nothing cause the driving experience in a air cooled Porsche is something that can't be replicated in today's cars.

^ the last statement says it all and that is why I will never sell my 993. The sound, the smell, the character and the feeling I get every time I get in it cannot be replicated.

Great read and fantastic pictures. Although mine is one of those "newer" models I have to say that there remains a different emotion in driving my 911 than anything I have ever experienced (although I've never driven an air cooled car). I can see why many of you make the statement about never getting rid of the car. While considering different plates for it I pondered over MMSETID - Makes Me Smile Every Time I Drive. Because it just does....
