My best guess is
18-24 for a 996.1
22-36 for a 996.2 with the C4S hovering mid to top of their price range.
I think the 996.1 is estimated at around 30-35k for insurance and up to 50-55 for a 996.2
I don't think you'll ever see many sub 20k 996's. I think it will maintain at this price for a long time. Since there's got to be a least some price differential between 911's, Boxsters and 944's

I have cash and I am lurking the market for the right buy...

You should not disregard Southern BC, incl. Vancouver Is. as a source.
They rarely see salt and if they do, it will be only for a couple of days, until another big rain comes in to wash it all out.
My car is a 2000 and has no rust.
A C2 like mine would hover between $19k and $22k on average, depending on mileage, etc.
Remember the 996.1 has the dual-row IMS. Oops! Sorry I brought this acronym up.

Its interesting as I think at the time pf the original post, it may have been a saw off in terms of cost being fairly close but the selection being much better.
Since then, with the drop in the Canadian dollar even further, I cant see how it would make any sense. I suppose it all depends on the actual selling prices here in Canada. Most 996's are listed mid to high $20's with reasonable mileage, but they could be selling for much less.
Of course, some of the recent economic woes may impact inventory and prices. Anyone with any recent experience or info that might be relevant?

Now that the dollar is near 80 cents it's a good time to sell a 911 to a US buyer but not buy.
So then you are stuck with the limited supply in Canada and generally higher prices. I agree that you should focus your search on Alberta and the slowing economy there.
I wonder if dealers will list highly desirable 911 models like GT2/GT3 at higher prices because there will be savy American buyers looking north for deals.

At current prices in US$, both my CGT and FGT have doubled from what I paid. Danny appraised them prior to Christmas and his appraisal on the CGT is already obsolete.
I'll bet a lot of Canadian owners will be sorely tempted to sell to the US come spring.
