Importing a vehicle from Quebec
Looking at buying a new snowmobile in Quebec and bringing into Ontario.
Does anyone know if I will be charged extra tax?
Quebec dealer thinks they have to charge me 5% Federal tax but it will be refunded when I pay the gst.
Does anyone know?
Thanks
Rod

They should only charge you the 5% GST.
If the charge you all taxes, then you can apply for a rebate for all except the GST
Then when you plate the sled in Ontario, the MTO will charge the 8% PST

So the end result is I won't be paying an extra taxes as opposed to buying it in Ontario?

Well in Ontario as you are aware, its 5% GST + 8% PST = our wonderful HST of 13%
Quebec is 5% GST + 9.975 QST = 14.975.
The dealer knows your taking the product to Ontario should really only charge you the 5% GST.
You bill should reflect your Ontario address.
Then when you register at the MTO, they will charge you only the 8% owing.
Other than any sale price differential, you saving the 9.975 QST but still have to pay the Ontario PST so a diff of only 1.975% of tax.
Unfortunately, because it's a motor vehicle and must be registered and plated, there's no way to avoid this.
Mind you, if the dealer could "massage" the invoice to reflect a lower recorded sell price, the tax applicable is on the net sale price. Just sayin.
