Default Friend wants to order a Cayman S

Hi Everyone,

I have a friend who lives in Kelowna and plans on buying a cayman S. He phoned the Dealership in Vancouver and was told they don't give discounts off sticker. Is this BS or what kind of discounts have people been getting on ordered new Caymans. Thanks for any info.

I also suggested he try other dealers possibly Calgary or the new dealer in Langley. I ordered my 911 GTS from the Edmonton Dealer and got 2.5%. So I figured he should get at least that since I am not much of a negotiator.

Many dealers have it as a policy to not negotiate over the phone so that's probably why he got that response. Too many times people who call and ask for a "best price" are just trolling the dealer and aren't taken seriously. Best way to negotiate is to visit the dealership in person.

You should also know the maximum you are prepared to pay for the car and you should also be prepared to walk away if they don't give you your price. You'd be surprised how many times the dealer caves, especially near month-end.

He knows exactly what options he wants and the price he is willing to pay. He is going to go to the dealer in person and try and see if they budge or not.

I had a deal on a new Cayman S ordered to my spec with a 2.5% discount back in June...

My friend got an 11% discount on over-stocked 2014 Panamera. Negotiated in person and via email. So it's possible. As mentioned, stick to your guns and your price.

It's much easier to get a discount on an in-stock vehicle...

in-stock inventory tends to be "very" negotiable....especially in December

To achieve that amount of discount, the vehicle must have been over-stock as mentioned, and also would have meant the manufacturer had some type of incentives to be had.

Vehicles in Canada have roughly 6-7% of margin to play with. Anywhere around 3% is fair.

Manufacturer's incentives will generally make a discount amount higher.
Total margin without manufacture's incentives are approx. 8.5%

Porsche Centre Vancouver virtually never discounts off list. Especially with models in demand such as the Cayman. Don't know about Langley yet. I know, I've bought a 991S and have a Macan Turbo on order with no discounting in past 2 years.

The Langley dealership is owned by Open Road Auto Group, they seem to have dealerships in just about everything imported. I would be surprised if they were unwilling to negotiate.

On principle, I will never pay MSRP for any vehicle. The only time I've ever considered it was the C7 Z06 but I decided not to put a deposit down because it was non refundable and I didn't want to commit to a car over a year in advance.

I got 5% on my 997 C2S that at the time, was en route to the dealership, so it was basically a car they had in stock. However, I also got 5% on a 997 Turbo that was ordered to my specs. IMO, there is always a little room to maneuver as a gesture of good will and if they won't budge on MSRP, I will walk.

^^^^^ Could not agree more. Zero discount from a "retail" business promotes arrogance of stealerships.....hence, Vancouver......
