Default Asking for advice from my fellow car guys

As some of you know I'm going back to school and need to make sure I have a reliable affordable vehicle for the next 4 years. My 2008 Cayman S is great but the CPO warranty is up soon and I've been looking to "downgrade" into something with a warranty and that will be less expensive to own and maintain. I found this: http://www.mazdaofbrampton.ca/used/M...8f5cc29c19.htm

It's a US car, I haven't gone in person yet to check it out but the salesperson is trying to see what kind of deal we could structure.

I've never had a Miata or a US car. Any thoughts? What to look for? Watch out for?

Is this a good move? Should I just keep my car?

Have you ever sat in a Miata? They are tiny.

haha. Very funny.

I'm serious here guys. We all know it's a great driver's car. I'm just wondering if there is anything I should look out for with this?

I know there are peeps on here with Miata experience.

Yup. It's financed through RBC. The same good people who are going to finance my education.

The Miata is an exceptional car. I wouldn't by a new-ish, complicated (read expensive) one though. More electronic gubbins means more stuff to fix when the warranty runs out.

They are small, but can be driven for many many miles. Even in the snow, as long as you have a hard top. Gas mileage isn't great for a small car. But they are a lot of fun.

I've driven an FRS, they are under $20k used in the US. Reliability is a bit suspect though. Its a parts bin car, with low quality parts.

What about a Civic Si? I've heard they are a scream. Or a Focus ST or Fiesta ST? Cheap to lease down there.

Students need versatility. Get a VW GTi.

Fun, fits you +4 girls...and crap in the trunk.

lol. I have a great German car already. If I wanted to deal with cost of owning/maintaining German I would just keep my P car. Esepcially since a good GTI isn't cheap.

Also, I'm in my thirties and I think 3 women at once is the most I can handle.

If you truly seek a "reliable affordable vehicle for the next 4 years", then get Revn29K00's Corolla (FS: 2010 Corolla S) in this forum!
