Default Registering and Plating Vehicles in Multiple Provinces

So I might take a job out in the atlantic provinces and would like to leave some cars there and some in Ontario - namely because finding specialist mechanics out in the middle of nowhere is next to impossible.

Does anyone know if it's possible to register a vehicle in another province and plate it there with a driver's license from Ontario/another province?

I mean, I know snowbirds who plate and register cars in Florida with Ontario driver's licenses so I would imagine it's possible within our own country.

Some time ago I spent two school years in BC. Ontario drivers license was good but after some period of time, maybe 60 days the car required BC plates and insurance. I'd start with a transport office in the province youll be working in.

Yup. You can keep a car in another province with the local plates and drive it with your Ontario license. My in-laws keep a car in Sydney NS that they use at their summer home in Cape Breton.

Be warned the British Columbia charges 12% sales tax on a used car that is bought in another province and registered in B.C.
You read that right- 12% to register your car and obtain B.C. plates.

But would you be still charged if no actual sale was taking place, such as you imported your own car from another province?

Not if you can prove you moved it there with you. I did this a year ago.

Beauty.
I'm assuming insurance is purchased in the province of registration - what's insurance out that-a-ways like anyhow? Cheaper than Ontario I would imagine - not much traffic to get into an accident with.

Is it a pretty simple process? Do they give you a new ownership for the vehicle or just a plate portion in whatever province it's going to.

The law came into effect in November 2013 IIRC. They may make an exemption if you are changing place of residence along with a car you already own. OP was not changing place of residence though.
