now the question which may cause the fire to cost him half of everything...was that his wife with him?
I'm not sure how calipers could be so hot as to ignite that fire. I've seen red discs under track braking, but for average street conditions? ***** please..

he was out in the country and had the car for 3days so I think he may have been pushing the car.
or perhaps the headers start that low?

So, is this a design flaw? In terms of placement of exhaust pipes? So close to gas tank?

I am very curious to know exactly how it happened, and IF the owner would blame Porsche and claim it's an unsafe car and ask for their money back , or a replacement car? I've had many cases of gas over-flow in over 15 cars and I have never seen or heard of anything like this!

I bet something sparked after spillage, then engine caught fire, and then it most likely impacted the battery pack which is very hard to distinguish as all of Tesla burnt cars have proven... according to the gas stations, they did put out the fire first, but then after some pause, something else caught fire (battery?)...

I wish that was the case. Gas station employee was interviewed and said that he grabbed the extinguisher but couldn't figure out how to use it.

Pathetic.

I don't think whimmis covers how to use a FE. The suppliers and service company who do the periodic extinguisher inspections do provide regular instructions on the proper use of FEs and these are typically done annually. In a previous life I worked for a company that did that work.

Pull the pin
Aim the nozzle
Press the trigger

Most employees don't have a clue nowadays.

Okay, is it possible that a water soaked squeegee dragged across oil (gasoline)
dripped onto the hot exhaust and ignited the fire? Judging from his arm position in this shot it looks like it was well within his scope of reach.

It might not be a design flaw after all. Just saying...

For sure this is what happened. Gas will always sit on top of water. One touch to a hot exhaust and poof
