We must have walked 40kms during the 5 days or so we were there and the museum was on the list but we never made it. We had been to the Porsche and Mercedes museum earlier in the week so by Sunday afternoon, with all the walking, sun, noise, lack of sleep and beer... we ran out of steam. Monday morning we found the gates to the track locked (no short cut now) so we had to walk from our campsite that was outside the track across from the Porsche curves all the way around the outside of the track up and around past the Dunlop curves, past Tetre Rouge and another km to the tram station and we did it in one hour with back packs on. I ain't 20 anymore but that wasn't too bad - 1/3 of an 8.8 mile track at 5:00AM on 4 hours sleep! Then we fought the train strike again! (on the way we we're thrown off a train at Strasbourg by the unions) I don't know how this country works. I guess despite itself.

While we were at the Porsche museum I had a tour of the Archives by the Director and was able to get some information on a car I am researching. Fantastic place - they have everything ever written about Porsche's from the 50's on, every book published, films, videos, stills etc.

So when we were getting off the train I noticed these cars and walked back up further on the platform to get some shots. They had 'press' stickers on them and I was told it is for journalists who wish to experience the older cars in back to back tests with the newer ones. How cool is that?!

So as I'm leaving the museum (we also did a factory tour as the friend I was with had never done it) we see a 918 pull right up to the front of the museum and Porsche staff rush out to meet this older couple who get out of it. The car was covered in bugs so it had just been out on the Autobahn we assumed.
Now here was the interesting thing - they didn't know how to put the split top back on the car. Now why wouldn't they be shown that at pick up? Nice luggage in the front with 918 in green script on it.

So then, not trying to look obtrusive (or a dick) I pull out the iPhone...
