3 years ago when I imported my 951, they didn't even ask for it. I handed it to them and they acted like they didn't even want it...not sure if because car was 25 yrs old

Shoot me a PM and i'll give you the Canada and US customs phone numbers.
Just want to add that if you plan to have it transported by a carrier, make a few phone calls, there is a sponsor on the 911 forum but their service is a joke ...

Everything cost more here because we are willing to pay it.

This isn't news. Compare the cost of vehicles in Canada with other parts of the world, namely Europe. We really don't have it bad here. A 991 C2S starts at 105k Eur in Germany, or $150k. A C2S in Australia is $230000.

Everything costs more in this country, but at the same time we enjoy a much higher standard of living. It's no coincidence.

And FWIW, the disparity between US and Canadian prices is nowhere near what it used to be. It used to be 30-40%. Now it's not much more than 10%, typically. I no longer shop in the states for savings, more for selection, whether for work or personal. By the time you land a car, the savings are hardly worth the effort. There is still way more selection, though.

Hi all,
I just bought a 1992 964 and am looking to import it from the US to Canada at Lewiston NY. Assuming I've done the 72 hour prenotification, etc properly, do I have to do the crossing between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on a week day or can I show up any time, any day? Does anyone know whether on the Canadian side there are particular hours in which an importation must be done?
I am really excited to see the car and get to drive it home myself!

Canadian side no hours.

But to get your papers back from the US side you need to be within their opening hours.

Congrats on the car. I'm really jealous if you have found a coupe c2 manual not red or black because I am looking every hour for one hehe.

The Canadian side doesn't care if you did what the US side asks for.

wrong, unless things have changed; they require the title to be stamped by the US side.

I'm pretty sure they don't require that.

You need to provide the US customs the title for the car as well as the bill of sale and the Canadian side will ask you for proof of payment if you paid by money order or cheque.
The US side will examine your sales documents for three days and then stamp them and return them to you, afterwards you go and pay the government their dues for your new car

I simply sent all the documents by courrier to the US customs office and called them to confirm everything was in order then i picked them up.I had more hassles at the Canadian side ... yes they do require the title to be stamped by the US side !

Cheers
Phil
