Drifting
drive it through the biggest muddiest puddle that you have in your area..... before you go.....
eat lots of sticky, crumbly food on the way there too....
just kidding.

always a good bet to remove most/all personal belongings and any loose garbage, often the better looked after a car looks when going into service/detailing, the better the person working on it takes care of it
the only time one of my cars sees a shop is when I take one in for a safety or etest and I always try to make sure its clean and well-kept looking

Make sure to note any particularly bad areas that need extra work and be sure to note any possibly weak areas (ex: cracked bumper/repainted hood/thined clearcoat due to prior wetsanding - that kinda thing) to the detailer.
Sounds counter intuitive but I would say hand wash your car before you bring it in. It would allow you to go over the car and note some of the areas mentioned above, most easily. You are more likely to see a scratch or nick that you want fixed, when the car is clean and when you have had the time to examine each surface.
Also plan for a non rainy day.
