Back Seat Shoulder Belts
Can someone recommend a good place to get shoulder belts installed in the back of my 86 Carrera? I live in Toronto so anywhere in GTA is fine.
Both kids will be in booster seats soon and I want to get them in safely.

was the car not originally shipped with shoulder belts ?
i think the body trim inside is all different for Shoulder belts and you may not have the hard points to fasten too.

Car only came with lap belts, shoulder belts started with the 87 or 88 models, but were done since 84 in Europe. So the attachment points are there just need someone who know what they are doing to put them in.

Once booster seat ready, your kids can sit in the back using the lap belt only. Not saying its safe, but it's legal. If you put a shoulder belt in they must use boosters, if they fit.

Just trying to be as safe as possible, tried finding out what was "legal" and i couldn't get a straight answer.
When using just a lap belt on kids the problem is thier upper body is not strong enough to absorb impact or even a jerk forward from emergency braking.
I will look into PEP.

I did a DIY install in my car. I bought a set of 993 belts from the classifieds on Pelican. You might have a hard time finding a place that will do the installation, because of liability issues.

The place was called
PEPARTS http://www.peparts.com/StoreFront.bok
and is in the US. Looks like the website under construction but with a little googling you can probably get in touch.
Here's a link to a pretty old thread with pictures...

I'm sure 993 rear ones would work well.

The back seat of a 911 is small, there isn't much room for them to go even if they only use a lap belt. They are basically child seats anyways.

If your kids have made it to booster yet I'm guessing there under 40lbs, our Britax convertible is good to 65lbs with the 5 point harness. I'm sure something similar would be much safer, especially if your hit from the side.

I bought my belts from DC Auto to replace frayed originals. They sent me 964 belts which looked identical to the originals. I didn't take any pictures, but from memory, even if the threaded mounting holes are there, there is a bracket that holds the reel down from the back which may not be installed on a car that didn't originally come with the rear shoulder belts. I'd suggest a look through PEP (I think that's what its called - online parts pdf from Porsche) for an '88 or '89 to get the part number for the bracket.
The install itself is a pretty straightforward DIY. Where in Toronto are you?

Pep parts is an American chain of car part stores, like partsource here in Canada, but much better, from what I've heard. Not to be confused with PET, the Porsche parts catalogue system, which you can access online though porsche.com.
