Where to find Toyo R888's?
I want an R-compound tire that i wont get hasstled with on the street. I used to have a set of street tires and a set of r-comps for the track but i dont think im going to be driving my 944S as a daily and it would be nice not to have to figure out how im getting my jack and wheels to the track every DE.
I've been doing some research and the Toyo R888's look like they have good reviews and still show "streetable tread" down to 3/32nds (im currently running BFG R1's at 1/32nd of "streetable tread" and i'd get hasstled if i got pulled over)
NONE of my suppliers can get toyo r-comps. Tire rack doesnt sell toyo's and 1010 tire wants over $1000 plus shipping for a set.
Is there anywhere i can get two 225/50R16 and two 245/45R16 R888's for $800 or less? If so where?
Thanks,
Jeff

I'm interested in this as well. I'll be needed new tires for next season. Is there any price differential in season, i.e. buying summer tires in the winter? Or is it always the same price?
I've heard that the R888 is the successor to the RA1, and that it's as good, but has a slightly longer life span. I've used RA1s in the past and absolutely love them.

Jeff W. at Tirecraft Concord.
He is the guy for Toyo R-compounds.
You have to get the Toyo R-group pricing though, but I can't remember what you need to do, just ask him.

go for the RA1s over the R888,,,,they never stopped making ra1s and they produce better laptimes...R888 are very noisy. I have them and would prefer ra1s
best price is www.tiresdirect.net
the 245s are $205 us no tax. have them delivered to a tire shop in Niagara falls and have them installed-also no tire disposal fee.
I have bought from them and saved large.

the reason i like the R888 over the RA1's is that the tread is a little deeper. If you find a 3/32nd RA1 it's bald. If you find a 3/32nd R888 it looks like it still has tread. And i think for that reason i could run them on the street the odd weekend with out getting harassed.
