Default HOV lanes

I'm a good Canadian and in the past have never used the HOV lane when I'm by myself. I was with my wife a couple of months ago and we were using it and she asked "what is stopping everyone from using it?"
Have you ever heard of a spot check for this? Since then I have been watching and many of the cars have a single person in them.
It does pi## me off when I see a nice EV using it.
Maybe we need a rebellion.
Is everyone here a "good Canadian?" lol

No doubt people use them illegally.

I believe you can still pay to get a permit to use the lane as a single occupant. On select highways.

I believe cars with green plate get a pass, at least on the highway.

I considered using them a few months ago after being stuck in traffic on the 403 day after day while the EVs whipped past me. Checked what the penalty is and it's 3 points! Well, it turns out that you can apply for a permit to use it for $60/month even as a single person in an ICE vehicle. I've been doing that since January Now my only problem is being stuck behind the dumbass Tesla drivers doing 90 km/hr with no one in front of them.

i can tell you they are used more by single drivers with dark tint than multiple drivers. I use the west end 401 a lot and have NEVER seen anyone getting pulled over..

As mentioned in an earlier thread , its usually out of frustration of people " camping" in the passing lane thinking people will go to HOV to pass.

I of course see a disproportionate amount of guys in pickup trucks by themselves. To be expected i find.

they should give you a special plate frame or something to identify you paid. Would be good for people to know i guess.

You have to put this big *** decal on your front and rear windows. I've only seen 2 others in the 3 months that I have been driving it twice a day. The decals are good for 3 months then you have to apply for a renewal.

I see singles all the time during rush hour. These HOV lanes are stupid IMO. Should just make more regular lanes, or make the HOV separated by concrete. People also constantly jump the solid white lines.

You mean that isn't a High Output Vehicle (HOV) passing lane? And they're so convenient.

I rarely drive where there are HOV lanes. About a month ago I was going up the 410 where there is an HOV. Saw Police in there charger driving batsh!t crazy up the shoulder to look inside cars to see how many people. And there were pull overs!

As frustrating as it is to see single occupant vehicles without green plates or HOV permits use them, my temptation to jump in alone was tempered after seeing cars get pulled over a couple of times on the 427 HOV lanes north of Pearson. Yeah, don't need the 3 point hit.
It's like the distracted driving enforcements - definitely see many people brazenly using their phones in hand while driving. It's all fun and games until you get caught, then ouch!!

OPP would have a field day on the 400 NB HOV lanes on Friday afternoons. Full of single occupant cars darting in and out over the no pass lines.

Unfortunately, adding extra lanes doesn't seem to ease congestion. 401 express and collector lanes are a case in point.
