Hey ANF, you're correct. I misread the rules
I'm not sure how I can do the tourist thing considering I'm already in the country as a permanent resident. I don't have a valid address as of yet since we're just staying in Air BnB's and serviced apartments until we figure out where to reside. I'll do some research and see what I can do.
At the very least the rally route would work. I would just have to obtain a permit every time I decide to take my "rally car" to the repair shop along the great ocean road haha.
BTW the speed camera's every 20 feet are annoying, but the roads are nice especially along the coast. It's also nice to be on the beach without heaps of people and no parking. I don't miss California.
Thank you for the info!!

To be honest though, I have not seen any 997.2 RS for sale except for two and one was a paint to sample with very low miles. I need to do more research to what the actual selling prices are vs asking prices. Will keep me busy for the next few months.

Ouch! Unfortunately we get the raw end of the stick down here. For the price I paid for my 996 C2 here I was in 996/997TT territory in the US. Guess there are a lot of other factors to consider so it's not quite as straight forward as that! Still, our cars unfortunately aren't cheap!

Hi Aussie Rennlisters,
My First post - Think I have found the 'correct' forum area - I'm not officially a member of the Porsche family yet, currently looking to buy a 970 v8 Panny. It's not my first preference for a Porsche, (would actually prefer a cayman) but mainly for missus (comfort) and the usual interstate distance travel to family way up north...
I'm a long-term Mercedes guy with several classics, but must admit I know sweet naff all about Porsche other than it's just down the road in Stuttgart and Mercedes borrowed some porsche production line space back in the mid 90's to build the early 500E.
So while I scour the ads for used pannys I keep thinking how do I get access to the vehicle datacards from the vin, I understand there is a PET (equivalent to MB EPC which spits out all the vehicles sa codes from the vin etc) - but I don't know if there is any way to access an australian version - the couple of links I have found through searching have led me to a definct US site link which wont work with a non NA vin obviously. If anyone can assist in informing me, I'd appreciate it.
I also know nothing about how the porsche options game works, what I should be 'expecting' to have and what is 'mandatory' and what is 'highly desirable'. if it's anything like Mrecedes, then there is probably further confusion from 'special package' combined options which change every 24hours.
I did manage to find some info on the porsche website - basic tyre spec info, option code list (for the 970) aka "v pages" ? and that is about it.
I would like to learn about stuff like factory retrofits and other post-sale option retrofits and whether or not it's worth it, as well as obvious common issues - although the dealership service manager I spoke to already said the model appears to be pretty reliable - common issues are basic like swaybar bushes and maybe rear suspension bushes (wasn't absolutely clear on that last bit)
Keen to learn from others ownership experiences and would naturally appreciate any advice offered - if anyone cares to share
Hope to make a more informed purchase decision and have a good background before I enter into ownership.
Located in NSW - just in case anyone is offering recommendations for workshops / knowledgable individuals etc
cheers!
Joe

Hey fellow aussies, new here and I'm from Sydney. Just purchased a 991.2 GT3 in Carrera White from Willoughby. Loving it! Lots of good information on this forum so couldn't help myself but say hello.
