Who was your worst student and what did they do?

The best line I've heard to tell students is "Don't try to impress me. You won't. And don't try to scare me, because I already am." I'm not advocating actually saying that but it's pretty funny.

So as a novice, on $300 pca track day, the assigned instructor gets $50?
Honestly, would never have known or anticipated that... Is this regional thing???
I thought instructors were teaching for free track time, and to give back? I have donated my time to events, charities, etc... Never would have expected a tip. Especially as a relatively non impoverished participant.
Honestly, this is the first time I have ever heard of tipping at a hpde event... Will ask around next time... Feel like an Azz if that's what everyone does, but I have never seen it. Never seen my track mates, buddies, do it either...
Did 2 classes at road America, and I am 99% sure no one tipped. There were 3-4 instructors for a group of 30. We broke class at the end of the day, everyone got in their cars, and drove off...
I think the scca and ra instructors are paid, no? At least one guy said he picks up extra weekends due to the pay...
Is tipping just a pca thing?
Just googled the topic. The threads on the corvette, jdm, and scca boards pretty much all say tipping would be odd, but buying lunch and showing gratitude is appreciated. Instructors commented that they were paid with free track time. I guess this will be the first pca thread on it .

Or are you talking about hiring a private coach? I can see tipping there...

I've been offered tips, but won't accept them. I don't deserve them (having way too much fun to get paid).

Reading through that makes me never want to do a Bmw cca event. No desire to share the track with any of the individuals posting in that thread.
Plus, from what I'm familiar with, their instructor training is either a joke or non existent so I'm not quite sure they have any room to talk.

I do agree that PCA's training is hard to beat, at least around these parts.

One of the hardest things for me is students in turbos. (If a cabrio, I insist they keep the top up.) Until they get up to speed, they come out of turns onto straights too slow and too low RPMs - so they bang the gas, and when the turbos kick in, it jerks my neck so I can barely hold up my head up by the end of the day.
